External derivations of internal groupoids

If His a G-crossed module, the set of derivations of Gin H is a monoid under the Whitehead product of derivations. We interpret the Whitehead product using the correspondence between crossed modules and internal groupoids in the category of groups. Working in the general context of internal groupoids in a finitely complete category, we relate derivations to holomorphisms, translations, affine transformations, and to the embedding category of a groupoid. Beyond the functional matrix hypothesis: a network null model of human skull growth for the formation of bone articulations.

Craniofacial sutures and synchondroses form the boundaries among bones in the human skull, providing functional, developmental and evolutionary information. Bone articulations in the skull arise due to interactions between genetic regulatory mechanisms and epigenetic factors such as functional matrices (soft tissues and cranial cavities), which mediate bone growth. Influence of complexation between amylose and a flavored model sponge cake on the degree of aroma compound release

International audience; Flavoring is used in the food industry to reinforce the aroma profile of baked cereal goods. During the processing of such products, interactions between starch and aroma compounds can occur, and this may have an impact on aroma release and perception. In the present study, 20 aroma compounds were tested to establish whether they formed complexes with amylose. The structure of the complexes was determined by wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). A simplified falling-head tecnique for rapid determination of field-saturated hydraulic conductivity

Simplified measurements of the field-saturated hydraulic conductivity, K fs , require short duration experiments, small water volumes, and easily transportable equipment. A simplified falling-head (SFH) technique for the rapid determination of K fs has been developed and tested. A field assessment of the Simplified Falling Head technique to measure the saturated soil hydraulic conductivity

Abstract The Simplified Falling Head (SFH) technique to measure field saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, Kfs, has received little testing or comparison with other techniques. Different experiments were carried out to i) determine the effect of ring size on the measured conductivity; ii) compare the SFH and Pressure Infiltrometer (PI) techniques in a clay loam soil; and iii) evaluate the approach used in the SFH methodology to estimate the α* parameter. Testing the Outflow Process over a Triangular Labyrinth Weir

In this paper, the dimensionless stage-discharge relation for a sharp-crested triangular labyrinth weir, determined in a previous study, is initially tested by some experimental runs carried out in a laboratory flume. According to this relationship, the flow magnification is affected by the length-magnification ratio and the head to one cycle width ratio. The measurements allowed to test the applicability of this dimensionless relation for different values of both the angle of the sidewall to the main flow direction and the weir height. Finally, the proposed dimensionless equation was also tested by using experimental measurements carried out for broad-crested triangular labyrinth weir.

Finite-Element Modeling of Floodplain Flow

A new methodology for a robust solution of the diffusive shallow water equations is proposed. The methodology splits the unknowns of the momentum and continuity equations into one kinematic and one parabolic component. The kinematic component is solved using the slope of the water level surface computed in the previous time-step and a zero-order approximation of the water head inside the mass-balance area around each node of the mesh. The parabolic component is found by applying a standard finite-element Galerkin procedure, where the source terms can be computed from the solution of the previous kinematic problem. Wastewater Reuse Effects on Soil Hydraulic Conductivity

The wastewater total suspended solids (TSS) concentration effects on the saturated hydraulic conductivity, \iK\ds, of a clay and a loam soil were investigated on laboratory repacked soil cores by a constant head permeameter. Both municipal wastewater (MW) and artificial wastewater (AW) with different TSS concentrations were used, with the aim to evaluate, by comparison, the effects of biological activity. Performance comparison of HARQ and ARQ mechanisms in IEEE 802.16 networks

The IEEE 802.16 technology defines several link level mechanisms to retransmit erroneous data. In this paper we compare the performance of the ARQ and HARQ mechanisms in the IEEE 802.16 networks. Our simulations results show that in general HARQ provides a better performance. However, ARQ can compete successfully with it due to a smaller signaling overhead. Furthermore, since ARQ does not require a dedicated uplink signaling channel for the acknowledgments messages, it results in better resources utilization in the uplink direction.
