The search for scientific arguments for the inclusion of back health as a fundamental aspect in the contents of physical conditioning for health in Physical Education (PE) in schools has led us to search for the relationship between the resistance of trunk musculature and non-specific low back pain in 1st year compulsory secondary education (CSE) students. The aim is to describe Finnish public health nurses’ concerns during regular health check-ups of preschool-aged children. In 2011, focus-group interviews were conducted with 12 public health nurses. The data were analysed using inductive content analysis. Public health nurses’ concerns dealt with the healthy growth and development of children and their ability to cope with difficult family situations, as well as the everyday reality of parenting. This article exemplifies physical activity promotion in practice as described by public health nurses from Finnish primary health care. Method: We gathered the data by purposive sampling in five regional focus groups with 24 informants working in child health clinics provided for all families with children below school age.
