MFCC-based Recurrent Neural Network for automatic clinical depression recognition and assessment from speech
2022
Abstract Clinical depression or Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a common and serious medical illness. In this paper, a deep Recurrent Neural Network-based framework is presented to detect depression and to predict its severity level from speech. Low-level and high-level audio features are extracted from audio recordings to predict the 24 scores of the Patient Health Questionnaire and the binary class of depression diagnosis. To overcome the problem of the small size of Speech Depression Recognition (SDR) datasets, expanding training labels and transferred features are considered. The proposed approach outperforms the state-of-art approaches on the DAIC-WOZ database with an overall accura…
Work stress and health problems of professional drivers: A hazardous formula for their safety outcomes
2018
BackgroundSeveral empirical studies have shown that professional drivers are a vulnerable occupational group, usually exposed to environmental stressors and adverse work conditions. Furthermore, recent studies have associated work-related stress with negative job performances and adverse health outcomes within this occupational group, including cardiovascular diseases and unsafe vehicle operation.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to describe the working conditions and the health status of this occupational group, and to evaluate the association between the Demand–Control model of job stress and their self-reported health and safety outcomes.MethodsA pooled sample of 3,665 Colombian profess…
Impact of burn-out syndrome in oncology personnel and its improvement through specific interventions
2019
Abstract Background Burn-Out Syndrome (BOS) in oncology nurses, has few experiences reported about its incidence and impact in its three different areas: emotional and physical exhaustion, cynism and despersonalization and no personal nor profesional fulfillment. There is a lack of resources for its diagnosis and management, although it impacts negatively in the patient attention/ care quality and the quality of institutional processes, added the personal impact in personal workers lives. Our objective was to determine the incidence of the BOS in our workers, analyze its causes and reduce in 20% the percentage of workers suffering or at risk of suffering BOS. Methods 23 nurses / nurse assis…
La salute organizzativa nei contesti sanitari: Un’esperienza di ricerca-intervento.
2011
ABSTRACT - From a psychosocial perspective that is intended to produce both understanding and change, especially involv-ing social actors in the construction of shared meanings, this paper illustrates the results of the first stage of an action research process focused on organizational health. The study has been carried out within an Italian hospital combining both quantitative and qualitative methods. Specifically, the data were gathered through the administration of Multidimensional Organizational Health Questionnaire (n=782) and focus group interviews whose transcripts were analyzed with the software T-Lab. The analysis of collected data has allowed us to trace the organizational health…
Performance status and depressive symptoms as predictors of quality of life in cancer patients. A structural equation modeling analysis
2015
Objective: This study aimed to examine whether depressive symptoms and performance status are independent predictors of both the physical and psychological domains of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in cancer patients. Methods: A sample of 4020 cancer patients (mean age 58 years, 51% women) was evaluated. Depressive symptoms were measured with the patient health questionnaire and HRQoL with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality of life questionnaire core 30. The impact of the illness on everyday activities was assessed with physician ratings of both the Karnofsky performance status and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status. The sim…

Maternal pre- and postnatal mental health trajectories and child mental health and development
2011
Pregnancy and early motherhood involve uncertainty and change, which can evoke mental health problems. We identified maternal mental health trajectories in pre- and postnatal period, and examined their association with later child mental health and development. Finnish mothers reported psychological distress (General Health Questionnaire [GHQ-36]) and depressive (Beck Depression Inventory [BDI-13]) symptoms in pregnancy (T1; N = 788) and two months (T2; N = 657) and 12 months (T3; N = 545) postpartum. Both parents accounted their child’s mental health (Behavior Assessment System for Children [BASC]) and social (Social Skills Rating System [SSRS], Child Behavior Scale [CBS]) and cognitive d…
The Implications Of The Foot Health Status In Parkinson Patients : A Case-Control Study
2022
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects bothhealth of the feet, as to gait patterns. This study aimed to find out about footproblems and their impact on self-perceived quality of life and related to foothealth in Parkinson's patients compared to a group of healthy subjects and tomeasure it with Spanish Podiatry Health Questionnaire (PHQ-S). It is about acase–control study in a sample of Parkinson's patients n=62, healthy controlsn=62. The PHQ-S was reported, it describes perception the subject has ineach of podiatric 6 dimensions consulted, assessing appreciation of health sta-tus of interviewee's feet and a self-rated the foot health score on the visual ana-lo…
Breast Cancer Patients' Fear of Treatment: Results from the Multicenter Longitudinal Study BRENDA II.
2015
Background: Fear of cancer treatment can become overwhelming. It is important to understand what patients are mainly afraid of and what factors are correlated with intense fear of treatment. Methods: Patients with primary breast cancer (n = 761) completed questionnaires about fear of treatment before surgery (t1), and before (t2) and after (t3) adjuvant treatment. Psychological co-morbidity was assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire. Logistic regression identified predictors of intense fear of treatment. Results: Patients were most afraid of chemotherapy (mean score 3.5), and fear remained high throughout follow-up; fear of radiotherapy and of surgery was lower and decreased over t…
The welfare of immigrants: Resilience and sense of community
2021
The accessibility to national health services by immigrants residing in our country has produced a widespread improve- ment of health indicators and health prevention for the entire population. The main goal of this study is to investigate the welfare conditions of immigrants, alongside two fundamental sources of psychological resources. In particular, the role of resilience and sense of community as protective factors against the risk of developing negative welfare outcomes, including life satisfaction and the perception of general health (physical and mental), were considered as indicators. The following self- report questionnaires were sent to a sample of 354 immi- grants, stratified by …
