Condylar position indicator and T-scan system II in clinical evaluation of temporomandibular intracapsular disease.

2012

The pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint intracapsular disease (TMJI) is multifactorial and its diagnosis is not easy. In this work authors show two types of clinical analysis: the Condylar Position Indicator (CPI) and T-Scan 2 system.Twenty patients (mean age of 24.5 years) with TMJI problem and 10 healthy matched subjects (mean age: 25.4 years) were selected. Analysis of TMJI was performed on each patient by means of Condylar Position Indicator (CPI) and T-Scan System II tests.Eight patients presented vertical symmetrical condylar distraction greater than healthy subjects (P-value0.001). T-Scan showed a difference of Percentage of Force (POF) not greater than 5%. Seven patients showed …

Quantitative corneal anatomy: evaluation of the effect of diabetes duration on the endothelial cell density and corneal thickness.

2014

Purpose To evaluate the differences in endothelial cell density (ECD) and central corneal thickness (CCT) between type II diabetic patients and age-matched healthy controls, and determine the impact of time from diagnosis. Methods This is a comparative study of 77 eyes of type II diabetic patients (33 males, 44 females) and 80 eyes of healthy subjects (42 males, and 38 females) whose ages ranged from 38 to 56 years. CCT, ECD, HbA1c levels, and Goldmann tonometry were measured. Results The CCT was significantly higher and the ECD significantly lower in long-term diabetic patients (10 years + since diagnosis) when compared with short-term diabetic patients (<1 year since diagnosis) and contro…

Large-scale network functional interactions during distraction and reappraisal in remitted bipolar and unipolar patients.

2017

Objectives The human brain is organized into large-scale networks that dynamically interact with each other. Extensive evidence has shown characteristic changes in certain large-scale networks during transitions from internally directed to externally directed attention. The aim of the present study was to compare these context-dependent network interactions during emotion regulation and to examine potential alterations in remitted unipolar and bipolar disorder patients. Methods We employed a multi-region generalized psychophysiological interactions analysis to quantify connectivity changes during distraction vs reappraisal pair-wise across 90 regions placed throughout the four networks of i…

Unraveling the behavior of oral drug products inside the human gastrointestinal tract using the aspiration technique: History, methodology and applic…

2020

Fluid sampling from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract has been applied as a valuable tool to gain more insight into the fluids present in the human GI tract and to explore the dynamic interplay of drug release, dissolution, precipitation and absorption after drug product administration to healthy subjects. In the last twenty years, collaborative initiatives have led to a plethora of clinical aspiration studies that aimed to unravel the luminal drug behavior of an orally administered drug product. The obtained drug concentration-time profiles from different segments in the GI tract were a valuable source of information to optimize and/or validate predictive in vitro and in silico tools, freque…

The Influence of All-Night Exposure to Pulsed Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields on Human Sleep. Der Einfluss kontinuierlicher nachtlicher Exposit…

2005

Question of the study The widespread use of mobile telephones has led to public discussion about the putative health hazards as well as scientific interest in the interactions of pulsed, high-frequency electromagnetic fields with physiological systems. This article presents a survey of three consecutive studies carried out by a research group at the University of Mainz.

Contributions regarding 3D modelling of biomechanics of the foot

2021

Within this paper, a detailed study is elaborated regarding the human foot during both orthostatic and gait, the main goal being to develop 3D models which are very useful in the foot motion and loading state research. In order to elaborate the accurate 3D modelling of the human foot assembly, a thorough biomechanical study is done. Such a study was required due to the fact of the high anatomical complexity of the motions within the foot, taking into consideration the 26 bones and 33 joints consisting it. The research aims the CAD modelling of the biomechanics of the healthy subjects alongside with predisposed pathological conditions. The resulting models will have important utility in both…

Spontaneous Endoreduplication, Tetraploidy and Chromosome Breakage in Lymphocyte Cultures from Healthy Subjects

1984

SUMMARY42,703 metaphases of peripheral lymphocytes from 20 healthy subjects (10 women and 10 men) were examined in order to establish the frequency of endoreduplicated cells and of tetraploid cells without diplochromosomes. Frequencies were found to be 0.016% and 0.112%, respectively. The two sexes did not differ as to the frequency of tetraploid cells, with and without diplochromosomes (about 0.13% in either sex). In a total of 2,135 well spread metaphases examined, 26 cells (i.e. 1.2%) with chromosomal breaks were found. Again, no significant differences between the two sexes were found as to such chromosome abnormalities.

Granger causality analysis of sleep brain-heart interactions

2014

We studied the networks of Granger causality (GC) between the time series of cardiac vagal autonomic activity and brain wave activities, measured respectively as the normalized high frequency (HF) component of heart rate variability and EEG power in the δ, θ, α, σ, β bands, computed in 10 healthy subjects during sleep. GC analysis was performed by vector autoregressive modeling, and significance of each link in the network was assessed using F-statistics. The whole-night analysis revealed the existence of a fully connected network of brain-heart and brain-brain interactions, with the ß EEG power acting as a hub which conveys the largest number of GC links between the heart and brain n…

Desoxyribonuclease-Aktivität im Seminalplasma von normalem und pathologischem Sperma1

2009
