The influence of Albunex on the pulmonary circulation in patients with pulmonary hypertension or left heart failure.

To determine the safety of the ultrasound contrast agent Albunex, its influence on right and left heart haemodynamics in patients with pulmonary artery hypertension or left heart failure was assessed after intravenous injection. Patients with a left ventricular ejection fraction smaller than 40% or a systolic pulmonary artery pressure greater than 40 mmHg received 0.08 and 0.22 ml.kg -1 Albunex and 10 ml albumin in random order during right heart catheterization and transthoracic echocardiography. Abstract Acquired left ventricular-right atrial communication ( Gerbode-type defect) is a rare complication of infective endocarditis. Although transesophageal echocardiography remains the technique of choice for the evaluation of complications of endocarditis this case highlights the usefulness of cardiac computed tomography in this scenario, particularly in cases where assessment of coronary anatomy is required before surgery.

Immunoglobulin G4-Related Aortitis and Severe Aortic Valve Stenosis Treated With Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement and Immunosuppression.

Abstract IgG4-related disease is an immune-mediated fibro-inflammatory disorder with multisystemic involvement. Aortitis and peri-aortitis are the most common cardiovascular manifestations of the disease. We present the case of a 65-year-old man with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis and concomitant IgG4 aortitis. The diagnosis was confirmed by IgG4 serum levels, positive positron emission computed tomography (PET-CT) scans, and pathology from mediastinal dissection. AbstractBackgroundDiagnostic and patients’ management modifications induced by whole-body 18F-FDG-PET/CT had not been evaluated so far in prosthetic valve (PV) or native valve (NV) infective endocarditis (IE)-suspected patients.MethodsIn sum, 140 consecutive patients in 8 tertiary care hospitals underwent 18F-FDG-PET/CT. Methanol and dichloromethanol extracts of the leaves and stems of Teucrium cartaginensesL. have been tested for their effects on resting arterial blood pressure, heart rate and noradrenaline induced hypertension. Both extracts administered i.v. to urethane anaesthetized normotensive rats reduced mean arterial blood pressure and heart valve, while only the dichloromethanol extract prevented noradrenaline induced hypertension. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
