Passive Biomonitoring of Influence of the Communication Traffic on Deposition the Pollution Near the Motorway

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań, przeprowadzonych w ramach biomonitoringu pasywnego, polegających na ocenie depozycji metali ciężkich (Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Hg i Pb), wzbogacających lokalnie aerozol atmosferyczny w skutek ruchu komunikacyjnego na autostradzie A4 w pobliżu miejscowości Prószków (województwo opolskie). Do badań wykorzystano próbki mchów Pleurozium schreberi, które pobrano w pobliżu autostrady na dystansie 3000 m i w odległości od niej do 120 metrów. Aquatic animals are continuously exposed to chemical pollutants but the effects evoked in skin surfaces, which receive the most direct contact with them, are poorly investigated. Terminal carbohydrate composition and immunological components present in skin mucus of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.) specimens exposed to waterborne sublethal dosages of heavy metals [arsenic (As2O3), cadmium (CdCl2) and mercury (CH3HgCl) at 5, 5 and 0.04 μM, respectively for 2, 10 and 30 days were analysed. The intense use of tellurium (Te) in industrial applications, along with the improper disposal of Te-derivatives, is causing their accumulation in the environment, where oxyanion tellurite (TeO32−) is the most soluble, bioavailable, and toxic Te-species. On the other hand, tellurium is a rare metalloid element whose natural supply will end shortly with possible economic and technological effects. The research was aimed at determining the interaction of municipal sewage sludge with the environment in the aspect of its potential for land applications in agriculture, land reclamation and land adaptation to different uses. Sequential extraction of heavy metals according to Brümmer’s method was used in the study. A detailed interpretation of the data allowed to state that the highest content of copper was found in one of the most mobile bindings (fraction I). Biological Monitoring Using Lichens as a Source of Information About Contamination of Mountain with Heavy Metals

Abstract The aim of this study was passive biomonitoring of the mountains of southern Poland. Lichens Hypogymnia physodes were used for the study. Concentrations of the heavy metals Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb were determined in these lichens. The concentrations were measured by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The analysis of the concentrations of the determined heavy metals in the lichen thallus allowed to determine the places with the highest and the lowest contamination with a given heavy metal in the study area. During the years 2014-2015, biomonitoring studies were carried out at three holding reservoirs located in Swietokrzyskie Province (central Poland): Kielce artificial lake, Chancza reservoir and Sielpia reservoir.
