A topological current divider

We study the transport properties of a hybrid junction made of a ferromagnetic lead in electrical connection with the helical edge modes of a two-dimensional topological insulator. In this system, the time reversal symmetry, which characterizes the ballistic edge modes of the topological insulator, is explicitly broken inside the ferromagnetic region. This conflict situation generates unusual transport phenomena at the interface which are the manifestation of the interplay between the spin polarization of the injected current and the spin-momentum locking mechanism operating inside the topological insulator. Restrictions for asymmetry and polarizations of recoil in muon capture

Abstract Using the helicity formalism, we discuss muon capture by targets of spin-zero. Owing to the definite neutrino helicity, three independent observables define a complete experiment. The precise relation between asymmetry α and longitudinal polarization P L of recoil, α = 1 + 2 jP L , comes only from rotational invariance. When time-reversal invariance is inserted, there is an additional restriction between the average polarization P av and the longitudinal polarization P L . On the basis of the experimental result P av = 0.43 ± 0.10 for 12 C, we predict P L = −(0.99 +0.01 −0.04 .

Analytic form of the full two-loop five-gluon all-plus helicity amplitude

We compute the full-color two-loop five-gluon amplitude for the all-plus helicity configuration. In order to achieve this, we calculate the required master integrals for all permutations of the external legs, in the physical scattering region. We verify the expected divergence structure of the amplitude, and extract the finite hard function. We further validate our result by checking the factorization properties in the collinear limit. Our result is fully analytic and valid in the physical scattering region. We express it in a compact form containing logarithms, dilogarithms and rational functions.

Enumerating higher-dimensional operators with on-shell amplitudes

We establish a simple formula for the minimal dimension of operators leading to any helicity amplitude. It eases the systematic enumeration of independent operators from the construction of massless non-factorizable on-shell amplitudes. Little-group constraints can then be solved algorithmically for each helicity configuration to extract a complete set of spinor structures with lowest dimension. Occasionally, further reduction using momentum conservation, on-shell conditions and Schouten identities is required. A systematic procedure to account for the latter is presented. Vector polarimetry at MaMi – Measurements of tensor correlation coefficients in e−bremsstrahlungs processes

Electron/photon tensor-correlation coefficients may allow to design a polarimeter that can measure all components of beam polarization simultaneously—a so-called vector polarimeter. Besides its purpose as a beam diagnostic device this vector polarimeter would also allow to test theoretical predictions for the electron-photon polarization correlations at energies between 1 MeV and 3.5 MeV. As a first step we have set up a measurement of the helicity transfer to the photon as a function of energy which is based on the Compton absorption method.

Random polarisations of the dipoles

We extend the dipole formalism for massless and massive partons to random polarisations of the external partons. The dipole formalism was originally formulated for spin-summed matrix elements and later extended to individual helicity eigenstates. For efficiency reasons one wants to replace the spin sum by a smooth integration over additional variables. This requires the extension of the dipole formalism to random polarisations. In this paper we derive the modified subtraction terms. We only modify the real subtraction terms, the integrated subtraction terms do not require any modifications.

Chiral Instabilities and the Onset of Chiral Turbulence in QED Plasmas

We present a first principles study of chiral plasma instabilities and the onset of chiral turbulence in QED plasmas far from equilibrium. By performing classical-statistical lattice simulations of the microscopic theory, we show that the generation of strong helical magnetic fields from a helicity imbalance in the fermion sector proceeds via three distinct phases. During the initial linear instability regime the helicity imbalance of the fermion sector causes an exponential growth(damping) of magnetic field modes with right(left) handed polarization, for which we extract the characteristic growth (damping) rates. The Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov Sum Rule

The Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov (DHG) sum rule relates the helicity structure of the photoabsorption cross section to the anomalous magnetic moment of the nucleon. It is based on Lorentz and gauge invariance, crossing symmetry, causality and unitarity. A generalized DHG sum rule my be derived for virtual photons. At low momentum transfer this generalized sum rule is saturated by the resonance region, at high momentum transfer it may be expressed by the parton spin distributions measured in deep inelastic scattering. The longitudinal-transverse interference determines the Cottingham sum rule, which is related to the electric and magnetic form factors over the whole range of momentum transfer.

Measurements of the electron-helicity asymmetry in the quasi-elastic A(e→,e′p) process

Abstract We present measurements of the electron helicity asymmetry in quasi-elastic proton knockout from 2H and 12C nuclei by polarized electrons. This asymmetry depends on the fifth structure function, is antisymmetric with respect to the scattering plane, and vanishes in the absence of final-state interactions, and thus it provides a sensitive tool for their study. Our kinematics cover the full range in off-coplanarity angle ϕ p q , with a polar angle θ p q coverage up to about 8°. The missing energy resolution enabled us to determine the asymmetries for knock-out resulting in different states of the residual 11B system. Helicity Amplitudes of the Lambda(1670) and two Lambda(1405) as dynamically generated resonances

We determine the helicity amplitudes A(1/2) and radiative decay widths in the transition Lambda(1670) -> gamma Y (Y = Lambda or Sigma(0)). The Lambda(1670) is treated as a dynamically generated resonance in meson-baryon chiral dynamics. We obtain the radiative decay widths of the Lambda(1670) to gamma Lambda as 2 +/- 1 keV and to -gamma Sigma(0) as 120 +/- 50 keV. Also, the Q(2)-dependence of the helicity amplitudes A(1/2) is calculated. We find that the K Xi component in the Lambda(1670) structure, mainly responsible for the dynamical generation of this resonance, is also responsible for the significant suppression of the decay ratio Gamma(gamma A)/Gamma(gamma Sigma 0).
