Helicity fractions of W bosons from top quark decays

2008

The helicity fractions of the W boson from top quark decays have been determined by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron. It is to be expected that the present experimental errors will decrease with larger data samples and in particular with measurements at the LHC. These improvements have to be matched by advances on the theoretical side. In this presentation we present a progress report on the calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the decay width of the top quark into polarised W bosons.

Measurement of Proton Electromagnetic Form Factors in e+e−→pp¯ in the Energy Region 2.00–3.08 GeV

2020

The process of e+e−→pp¯ is studied at 22 center-of-mass energy points (s) from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV, exploiting 688.5 pb−1 of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section (σpp¯) of e+e−→pp¯ is measured with the energy-scan technique and it is found to be consistent with previously published data, but with much improved accuracy. In addition, the electromagnetic form-factor ratio (|GE/GM|) and the value of the effective (|Geff|), electric (|GE|), and magnetic (|GM|) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. |GE/GM| and |GM| are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertaintie…

Helicity-coupling amplitudes in tensor formalism.

1993

The decay of a particle with spin to two other particles with spin is best described in the helicity formalism. It is the purpose of this paper to show that the helicity-coupling amplitudes, which appear in the angular distributions, can be expressed in terms of the covariant amplitudes in the tensor formalism. This allows for a systematic derivation for the energy dependence of the helicity-coupling amplitudes within the framework of the tensor formalism. The concept of pure intrinsic spin has been developed in the tensor formalism, for decays involving two spins in the final state, in order to bring the formalism to a form comparable to the standard $\ensuremath{\ell}S$-coupling scheme. Transition form factors of theN*(1535)as a dynamically generated resonance

2008

We discuss how electromagnetic properties provide useful tests of the nature of resonances, and we study these properties for the ${N}^{*}(1535)$ that appears dynamically generated from the strong interaction of mesons and baryons. Within this coupled-channels chiral unitary approach, we evaluate the ${A}_{1/2}$ and ${S}_{1/2}$ helicity amplitudes as a function of ${Q}^{2}$ for the electromagnetic ${N}^{*}(1535)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\gamma}}^{*}N$ transition. Within the same formalism we evaluate the cross section for the reactions $\ensuremath{\gamma}N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\eta}N$. We find a fair agreement for the absolute values of the transition amplitudes, a…

Exclusive semi-leptonic decays of bottom mesons in the spectator quark model

1988

We calculate the exclusive semileptonic bottom meson decays\(B \to D(D*) + l^ - + \bar v_l \) in the spectator quark model. The helicity structure of the mesonic current transitionsB→D(D*) is matched to the helicity structure of the free quark current transitionsb→c at minimum momentum transferq2=0. The results are continued toq2≠=0 by pole-dominated form factors. Our results are compared to recent calculations that use quark model dynamics at maximum momentum transferq max 2 = (M1 −M2)2. We find agreement atq max 2 . Atq2=0 there are significant differences between the predictions of the two approaches leading to marked differences in the predictions for the shape of the lepton energy spec…

Spin, helicity and flavour patterns in exclusive decays of bottom mesons into baryon-antibaryon pairs

1989

I use the constituent quark model to calculate the exclusive decays of bottom mesons into ground state baryon-antibaryon pairs mediated by the weakb→c and b→u transitions. TheW-exchange contributions to these decays are found to be negligible. For theW-decay contributions I find that the simple colour-flavour structure of the 1/2+ and 3/2+ ground state baryons together with the current-current nonleptonic Hamiltonian leads to many simple and testable predictions. Notable among these is the predicted vanishing of decays involving 3/2+ baryons as in\(\overline {B^0 } (B^ - ) \to 3/2^ + \overline {1/2^ + } \) and\(\overline {B^0 } (B^ - ) \to 3/2^ + \overline {3/2^ + } \). An experimental veri…

Measurement of the correlation between the polar angles of leptons from top quark decays in the helicity basis ats=7  TeVusing the ATLAS detector

2016

A measurement of the correlations between the polar angles of leptons from the decay of pair-produced t and (t) over bar quarks in the helicity basis is reported, using proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb(-1) at a center-of-mass energy of root s = 7 TeV collected during 2011. Candidate events are selected in the dilepton topology with large missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. The angles theta(1) and theta(2) between the charged leptons and the direction of motion of the parent quarks in the t (t) over bar rest frame are sensitive to the spin information, and the distribution of …

Measurement of Helicity-Dependent Photoabsorption Cross Sections on the Neutron from 815 to 1825 MeV

2005

Helicity-dependent total photoabsorption cross sections on the deuteron have been measured for the first time at ELSA (Bonn) in the photon energy range from 815 to 1825 MeV. Circularly polarized tagged photons impinging on a longitudinally polarized LiD target have been used together with a highly efficient 4pi detector system. The data around 1 GeV are not compatible with predictions from existing multipole analyses. From the measured energy range an experimental contribution to the GDH integral on the neutron of [33.9 +/- 5.5(stat) +/- 4.5(syst)] microb is extracted.

First measurement of the helicity-dependent γ p↦pη differential cross-section

2003

The helicity dependence of the (γ) over right arrow(p) over right arrow -+ peta reaction has been measured for the first time at a center-of-mass angle theta(eta)*= 70degrees in the photon energy range from 780 MeV to 790 MeV. The experiment, performed at the Mainz microtron MAMI, used a 4pi-detector system, a circularly polarized, tagged photon beam. and a longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target. The helicity 3/2 cross-section is found to be small and the results for helicity 1/2 agree with predictions from the MAID analysis.

On the theory of light scattering in molecular liquids

2001

The theory of light scattering for a system of linear molecules with anisotropic polarizabilities is considered. As a starting point for our theory, we express the result of a scattering experiment in VV and VH symmetry as dynamic correlation functions of tensorial densities $\rho_{lm}(q)$ with $l=0$ and $l=2$. $l$, $m$ denote indices of spherical harmonics. To account for all observed hydrodynamic singularities, a generalization of the theory of Schilling and Scheidsteger \cite{schilling97} for these correlation functions is presented, which is capable to describe the light scattering experiments from the liquid regime to the glassy state. As a microscopic theory it fulfills all sum rules …
