Left-handed neutrino disappearance probe of neutrino mass and character
1996
We explore the sensitivity to a non vanishing neutrino mass offered by dynamical observables, i.e., branching ratios and polarizations. The longitudinal polarization in the C.M. frame decreases by a 4% for $D^+ \rightarrow \tau^+ \nu_\tau$ and $m_{\nu_\tau}=24$ MeV. Taking advantage of the fact that the polarization is a Lorentz variant quantity, we study the polarization effects in a boosted frame. By means of a neutrino beam, produced by a high velocity boosted parent able to flip the neutrino helicity, we find that an enhanced left-handed neutrino deficit, induced by a Wigner rotation, appears.
Insight into the Narrow Structure in η Photoproduction on the Neutron from Helicity-Dependent Cross Sections
2016
The double polarization observable E and the helicity dependent cross sections σ1=2 and σ3=2 were measured for η photoproduction from quasifree protons and neutrons. The circularly polarized tagged photon beam of the A2 experiment at the Mainz MAMI accelerator was used in combination with a longitudinally polarized deuterated butanol target. The almost 4π detector setup of the Crystal Ball and TAPS is ideally suited to detect the recoil nucleons and the decay photons from η → 2γ and η → 3π0. The results show that the narrow structure previously observed in η photoproduction from the neutron is only apparent in σ1=2 and hence, most likely related to a spin-1=2 amplitude. Nucleon resonances t…
Transition form factors of the N(*()1535) as a dynamically generated resonance
2007
We discuss how electromagnetic properties provide useful tests of the nature of resonances, and we study these properties for the N*(1535) which appears dynamically generated from the strong interaction of mesons and baryons. Within this coupled channel chiral unitary approach, we evaluate the A_1/2 and S_1/2 helicity amplitudes as a function of Q^2 for the electromagnetic N*(1535) to gamma* N transition. Within the same formalism we evaluate the cross section for the reactions gamma N to eta N. We find a fair agreement for the absolute values of the transition amplitudes, as well as for the Q^2 dependence of the amplitudes, within theoretical and experimental uncertainties discussed in the…
First measurement of helicity-dependent cross sections in π0η photoproduction from quasi-free nucleons
2018
The helicity-dependent cross sections for the photoproduction of $\pi^0\eta$ pairs have been measured for the first time. The experiment was performed at the tagged photon facility of the Mainz MAMI accelerator with the combined Crystal Ball - TAPS calorimeter. The experiment used a polarized deuterated butanol target and a circularly polarized photon beam. This arrangement allowed the $\sigma_{1/2}$ (photon and target spin antiparallel) and $\sigma_{3/2}$ (parallel spins) components to be measured for quasi-free production of $\pi^0\eta$ pairs off protons and neutrons. The main finding is that the two helicity components contribute identically, within uncertainties, for both participant pr…
Measurement of the beam-helicity asymmetry in photoproduction of π0η pairs on carbon, aluminum, and lead
2020
The beam-helicity asymmetry was measured, for the first time, in photoproduction of $\pi^{0}\eta$ pairs on carbon, aluminum, and lead, with the A2 experimental setup at MAMI. The results are compared to an earlier measurement on a free proton and to the corresponding theoretical calculations. The Mainz model is used to predict the beam-helicity asymmetry for the nuclear targets. The present results indicate that the photoproduction mechanism for $\pi^{0}\eta$ pairs on nuclei is similar to photoproduction on a free nucleon. This process is dominated by the $D_{33}$ partial wave with the $\eta\Delta(1232)$ intermediate state.

Search for right-handed W bosons in top quark decay
2005
We present a measurement of the fraction f+ of right-handed W bosons produced in top quark decays, based on a candidate sample of $t\bar{t}$ events in the lepton+jets decay mode. These data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 230pb^-1, collected by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ Collider at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. We use a constrained fit to reconstruct the kinematics of the $t\bar{t}$ and decay products, which allows for the measurement of the leptonic decay angle $\theta^*$ for each event. By comparing the $\cos\theta^*$ distribution from the data with those for the expected background and signal for various values of f+, we find f+=0.00+-0.13(stat)+-0.07(syst). This …
Study ofD+→K−π+e+νe
2016
We present an analysis of the decay D+ -> K-pi(+)e(+)nu(e) based on data collected by the BESIII experiment at the psi(3770) resonance. Using a nearly background-free sample of 18262 events, we measure the branching fraction B(D+ -> K-pi+e+nu e) = (3.77 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.08)%. For 0.8 K-pi+e+nu e)([0.8,1.0]) = (3.39 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.08)%. A partial wave analysis shows that the dominant (K) over bar* (892)degrees component is accompanied by an S-wave contribution accounting for (6.05 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.18)% of the total rate and that other components are negligible. The parameters of the (K) over bar* (892)degrees resonance and of the form factors based on the spectroscopic pole dominance predictions…
