Combined potentiometric titration and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) methods were used to study the interactions of nickel(II) ions with the N-terminal fragments and histidine-rich fragments of Hpn-like protein from two Helicobacter pylori strains (11637 and 26695). The ITC measurements were performed at various temperatures and buffers in order to extract proton-independent reaction enthalpies of nickel binding to each of the studied protein fragments. Some cases of Ménétrier’s disease associated with <i>Helicobacter pylori</i> (HP) have recently been reported in the literature. We report here the case of a 51-year-old man with a diagnosis of Ménétrier’s disease who had previously been unsuccessfully treated with H<sub>2</sub> antagonists. A subsequent demonstration of HP infection led us to treat the patient with an eradicating therapy which prompted complete regression of clinical symptoms, resolution of the gastric endoscopic picture, and absence of HP on gastric histology. We describe a new kind of self-propelling motion of bacteria based on the cooperative action of rotating flagella on the surface of bacteria. Describing the ensemble of rotating flagella in the framework of the hydrodynamics with spin the reciprocal theorem of Stokesian hydrodynamics is generalized accordingly. The velocity of the self-propulsion is expressed in terms of the characteristics of the vector field of flagella orientation and it is shown that unusually high velocities of \textit{Thiovulum majus} bacteria may be explained by the cooperative action of the rotating flagella. Aims: Published data show a trend of decreasing prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in Eastern European countries due to socioeconomic changes. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of H. pylori infection among children in Latvia and to compare these results with previous studies in the same population. The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of a previous treatment with antibiotics on the prevalence of H. pylori infection in preschool children.
