Urticaria and bacterial infections
2014
The association between urticaria and infectious diseases has been discussed for >100 years. However, a causal relationship with underlying or precipitating infection is difficult to establish. The purpose of this work was to perform a systematic analysis of the published cases of urticaria associated with bacterial infections. We give an umbrella breakdown of up-to-date systematic reviews and other important publications on the complex association of urticaria and bacterial infections. We did a Medline search, for English language articles published until January 2014, using the key words "urticaria" and "bacteria/bacterial disease"; a second analysis was performed in groups of bacteria an…
A Comparative Study on Nickel Binding to Hpn-like Polypeptides from Two Helicobacter pylori Strains
2021
Combined potentiometric titration and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) methods were used to study the interactions of nickel(II) ions with the N-terminal fragments and histidine-rich fragments of Hpn-like protein from two Helicobacter pylori strains (11637 and 26695). The ITC measurements were performed at various temperatures and buffers in order to extract proton-independent reaction enthalpies of nickel binding to each of the studied protein fragments. We bring up the problem of ITC results of nickel binding to the Hpn-like protein being not always compatible with those from potentiometry and MS regarding the stoichiometry and affinity. The roles of the ATCUN motif and multiple His…
Multicentric randomised study ofHelicobacter pylorieradication and pepsinogen testing for prevention of gastric cancer mortality: the GISTAR study
2017
IntroductionPopulation-based eradication ofHelicobacter pylorihas been suggested to be cost-effective and is recommended by international guidelines. However, the potential adverse effects of widespread antibiotic use that this would entail have not been sufficiently studied. An alternative way to decrease gastric cancer mortality is by non-invasive search for precancerous lesions, in particular gastric atrophy; pepsinogen tests are the best currently available alternative. The primary objective of GISTAR is to determine whetherH pylorieradication combined with pepsinogen testing reduces mortality from gastric cancer among 40–64-year-old individuals. The secondary objectives include evaluat…

Helicobacter pylori and Barretts esophagus: a protective factor or a real cause?
2017
Nothwithstanding the definite aethiopathogenetic path of certain diseases, the relationship between Helicobacter Pylori (H. Pylori) and barrett's esophagus (BE), a condition that increases the risk for dysplasia and consequently adenocarcinoma of the distal esophagus and esophagogastric junction, remains uncertain. this paper reviews the current scientific literature with emphasis on the protective correlation between H. Pylori infection and BE, and demonstrates that a causal relathionship has not been disproved with certainty. Furthermore, H. Pylori infection could pose a risk for the onset of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which could in turn trigger BE, a precancerous lesion and…
Role and clinical importance of Helicobacter pylori infection in hemodialysis patients
2008
Dyspepsia is an extrarenal symptom frequently found in hemodialysed patients; it is due to chronic renal failure, and uremic gastritis is a specific associated condition in chronic renal failure (CRF). On the other hand, in the general population, Helicobacter pylori infection is an important dyspepsia-related risk factor; its close connections with gastro-duodenal pathology are already known, above all the peptic disease in a really exclusive way. By observation of a dyalitic group of patients, opportunely matched with a no CRF group, we evaluated CRF-associated uremia and Helicobacter pylori infection which could eventually interact causing symptoms and lesions. A statistical analysis of …
Upper gastrointestinal diseases correlated to helicobacter pylori infection: Comparison between uremic and non-uremic patients. Review of the literat…
2012
Helicobacter Pylori is the first cause of infection of the upper gastrointestinal tract in hemodyalisis patients. The hemodialytic treatment can lead to spontaneous eradication of this bacteria, but the frequency of pathological involving the upper gastrointestinal tract is still higher in these patients compared to hemodialysis patients negative for the infection and normal patients. In consideration of virulence and pathogenicity of helicobacter pylori infection, there is the strong recommendation for eradication therapy in uremic patients, that it has been demonstrated to reduce the incidence of benign and malignant of the upeer gastrointestinal tract.

Hydrodynamics with spin in bacterial suspensions
2016
We describe a new kind of self-propelling motion of bacteria based on the cooperative action of rotating flagella on the surface of bacteria. Describing the ensemble of rotating flagella in the framework of the hydrodynamics with spin the reciprocal theorem of Stokesian hydrodynamics is generalized accordingly. The velocity of the self-propulsion is expressed in terms of the characteristics of the vector field of flagella orientation and it is shown that unusually high velocities of \textit{Thiovulum majus} bacteria may be explained by the cooperative action of the rotating flagella. The expressions obtained enable us to estimate the torque created by the rotary motors of the bacterium and …
