Urticaria in children and adolescents: An updated review of the pathogenesis and management

2018

The present survey represents the latest data on diagnosis and management of childhood urticaria. It has been observed that urticaria occurs less often in children than adults, with symptoms rarely lasting for over 6 weeks. Triggers or aggravating factors can be found only in 21%-55% of cases. Finding autoantibodies in children does not impact a disease prognosis, unlike in adult patients, where the presence of autoantibodies is associated with a more prolonged run of the disease, a more severe prognosis and more intensive treatment methods. The incidence of food allergy equals to 8%-10% of cases. The incidence of Helicobacter Pylori infection in children is lower than that in adults and co…

The 13C urea breath test in the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection

1999

Summary The urea breath test (UBT) is one of the most important non-invasive methods for detecting Helicobacter pylori infection. The test exploits the hydrolysis of orally administered urea by the enzyme urease, which H pylori produces in large quantities. Urea is hydrolysed to ammonia and carbon dioxide, which diVuses into the blood and is excreted by the lungs. Isotopically labelled CO2 can be detected in breath using various methods. Labelling urea with 13 C is becoming increasingly popular because this non-radioactive isotope is innocuous and can be safely used in children and women of childbearing age. Breath samples can also be sent by post or courier to remote analysis centres. The …

Helicobacter pylori - diagnostika izmantojot 13C urīnvielas elptestu un seroloģijas testu: rezultātu salīdzināšana

2017

Ievads. 2012.gada veiktajā pētījumā tika iegūti dati, ka Latvijā Helicobacter Pylori (HP) izplatība pieaugušo populācijā ir augstā līmenī – 79.21%. Prezentētajā pētījumā tika analizēta HP infekcijas izplatība saistībā ar sociāli-demogrāfiskiem faktoriem - dalībnieku izglītības līmeni, nodarbinātību, vidējiem ienākumiem, ģimenes stāvokli, smēķēšanas paradumiem Latvijas iedzīvotājiem. Pētījuma mērķis. Racionāla medikamentu lietošana hroniskā gastrīta gadījumā

2017

Impact of infectious burden on extent and long-term prognosis of atherosclerosis.

2002

Background — Recent findings suggest a causative role of infections in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. In hypothesizing an association between infectious agents and the development of atherosclerosis, we would expect a correlation to the extent of atherosclerosis. Moreover, this effect could be multiplied by the number of pathogens to which an individual had been exposed. Methods and Results — In 572 patients, IgG or IgA antibodies to herpes simplex virus 1 and 2, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, Hemophilus influenzae , Chlamydia pneumoniae , Mycoplasma pneumoniae , and Helicobacter pylori were measured. The extent of atherosclerosis was determined by coronary angiography, carotid…

Complex Cellular Responses of Helicobacter pylori-Colonized Gastric Adenocarcinoma Cells ▿

2011

ABSTRACT Helicobacter pylori is an important class I carcinogen that persistently infects the human gastric mucosa to induce gastritis, gastric ulceration, and gastric cancer. H. pylori pathogenesis strongly depends on pathogenic factors, such as VacA (vacuolating cytotoxin A) or a specialized type IV secretion system (T4SS), which injects the oncoprotein CagA (cytotoxin-associated gene A product) into the host cell. Since access to primary gastric epithelial cells is limited, many studies on the complex cellular and molecular mechanisms of H. pylori were performed in immortalized epithelial cells originating from individual human adenocarcinomas. The aim of our study was a comparative anal…

Diagnosis ofHelicobacter pyloriInfection

2009

The articles published this last year in the field of Helicobacter pylori diagnosis reported the development of in vivo histology, small improvements in some invasive methods (urease test, culture, and histology) and new kits for the stool antigen tests. They also contributed to increasing our knowledge, by further exploration into specific conditions for the urea breath test and into the significance of cagA antibodies. The role of serum markers of atrophy was also confirmed. Molecular methods are still being developed for direct genotyping, detection of H. pylori and its clarithromycin resistance, either by polymerase chain reaction or fluorescent in-situ hybridization. For the first time…
