Interesting dematiaceous Hyphomycetes on Lodoiceamaldivica dead fragments

2013

Two new species, Virgariella lodoicea and Cacumisporium oceanicum and a new record of Diplocladiella scalaroides from Seychelles islands are proposed. A species of Helicosporium which could not be determined is also described.

Preliminary results of systematic sampling of gas manifestations in geodynamically active areas of Greece

2016

Greece is located on a convergent plate boundary comprising the subduction of the African Plate beneath the Eurasian, while the Arabian plate approaches the Eurasian in a northwestward motion. It is considered to be one of the most tectonically active regions of Earth with a complex geodynamic setting, deriving from a long and complicated geological history. Due to this specific geological background, conditions for the formation of many thermal springs are favoured. In the past years, almost all the already known sites of degassing (fumaroles, soil gases, mofettes, gas bubbling in cold and thermal waters) located in the Hellenic area were sampled at least one time. Collected samples were a…

Le colpe della cultura pagana: riflessioni sull'Epistola 69b di Giuliano

2002

The article is a reflection starting from the epistle 89b of the emperor Julian, which is presented as an illuminating document for the reconstruction of the values of the Hellenic civilisation, based on a precise paideutic-religious programme, which takes the form of a kind of canon of praiseworthy and/or inadvisable authors

Scultura ellenistica e paesaggio urbano: i casi di Tindari e Solunto

2019

The archaeological evidence provides us with significant clues about the role of the sculptural display in the urban space during the Hellenistic period. The paper focuses on two study cases from Tindari and Solunto respectively. Thanks to the investigation of overlooked archival documents and historiography, it has been possible to single out the monumental contexts of the sculptures. It is now quite certain that the two marble Nikai from Tyndaris come from the mid-19th century excavation at the theatre, perhaps from the paraskenia of the huge late Hellenistic scene building. The second part deals with the so-called Zeus of Solunto, its extant pieces and the puzzling remains of the sacred …

Achalasie im Kindesalter: Eine separate Entität?

2007

Background Achalasia in childhood is rare, also the etiology and the pathogenesis of the early onset ort he disease is practically unknown. Little is known about the neuropathological changes in structure of the esophageal wall in non-hereditary, sporadic achalasia in children and ist differentiation to that in adults. The aim of our study was to examine the morphological properties or high-pressure zone of the lower esophageal sphincter in children who had undergone a Heller myotomy because of achalasia as well as to compare them with the pathological findings in adults. Methods Muscle biopsies of the smooth musculature, a 20 x 10 mm long segment of the myenteric of the distal esophagus (l…

Langzeitergebnisse nach Heller-Myotomie mit anteriorer Semifundoplikatio bei Achalasie

2004

INTRODUCTION The positive success rate of cardiomyotomy in the treatment of achalasia has recently - especially in young patients - resulted in a primary operative treatment concept. Few studies of long-term effects of myotomy concerning the removal of dysphagia and the development of gastroesophageal reflux have been submitted. PATIENTS AND METHODS In the period between September 1985 and March 2003, an open, transabdominal Heller-myotomy combined with a Dor-semifundoplication was carried out in 93 patients with achalasia. 77 patients were followed for more than 6 months postoperatively (median follow-up: 70 months). The procedure was prospectively observed, and patients were questioned co…

Achalasie bei zirkumskripter Sklerodermie

2006

HISTORY: A 38-year-old man had been suffering from circumscribed scleroderma for 12 years. Dysphagia had been diagnosed 5 years ago and for the last 2 years he had retrosternal dysphagia for solid and liquid food. His symptoms had increased markedly 6 months before presenting at our hospital and the patient had lost 15 kg of weight. 2 months ago, a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) had been inserted at another hospital. INVESTIGATIONS: The patient presented in a reduced general and nutritional state. The routine laboratory tests and tumor markers were within normal range. Endoscopy showed a moderately dilated esophagus with food remnants. It was not possible to pass the cardia witho…

Modélisation numérique d’impacts à hautes vitesses par la méthode sans maillage Smoothed Particles Hydrodynamics. Application aux micro-impacts dans …

2021

Investigations on the ballistic behaviours of soft tissue materials are significant research in a medical and pharmaceutical framework. They mainly focus on particles penetrating or traveling into the soft materials. For instance, in the needle-free drug delivery, the micro-scale particles as drug powders are injected into skin with high velocity, and several factors should be considered such as the particle diameters, trajectories, and momentum or velocities of projectile in this process. There have been investigated by some experiments, but there is still no study from the numerical insights. The numerical methods are suitable to study these kinds of processes. Although grid-based methods …

Co-production of Hydrogen and Methane From the Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste in a Pilot Scale Dark Fermenter and Methanogenic Biofilm Rea…

2018

The co-production of biohydrogen and methane from the organic fraction of municipal solid waste was investigated using a two-stage AD system, composed of a pilot scale dark fermenter (DF) and a continuous methanogenic biofilm reactor. From the DF process, a biohydrogen yield of 41.7 (± 2.3) ml H2/gVSadded was achieved. The liquid DF effluent (DFE) was rich in short chain volatile fatty acids, i.e., mainly acetic and butyric acid. The DFE was valorized by producing methane in the methanogenic biofilm reactor. Two methanogenic biofilm reactors were used to assess the biotic and abiotic role of the DFE on the performance of the reactors. Regardless of the different DFE feeding (i.e., biotic an…
