The Effects of Hemianopia on Perception of Mutual Gaze

Significance Individuals with left hemianopic field loss (HFL), especially with neglect history, may have greater difficulties than individuals with right HFL in judging the direction of another person's gaze. Purpose Individuals with HFL often show a spatial bias in laboratory-based perceptual tasks. Comparison of the Behavioural Inattention Test and the Catherine Bergego Scale in assessment of hemispatial neglect.

The objective of the study was to correlate visual and behavioural assessments of hemispatial neglect caused by cerebrovascular accident. We assessed 17 consecutive right-hemisphere stroke patients with hemispatial neglect: the Catherine Bergego Scale (CBS) was used to evaluate neglect in spontaneous behaviour and the conventional subtests of the Behavioural Inattention Test (BIT C) were used to assess visual neglect. The proportional severity of both visual and behavioural neglect was calculated in each individual patient. Inferior altitudinal hemianopia associated with a tumor in the posterior fossa: report of a case

Altitudinal hemianopias may be related to chiasmatic involvement. A case in which horizontal inferior hemianopia is associated with a tumor in the posterior fossa producing a triventricular hydrocephalus is described. The visual field defect is interpreted as a consequence of the pressure by a dilated third ventricle upon the chiasmatic area.

Background and Purpose Photoreactive flow changes of the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) in control subjects and patients with unilateral occipital lobe infarction were investigated to study the hypothesis that occipital lobe infarction of varying extent leads to a reduced visually activated flow increase in the ipsilateral PCA. Methods Maximum mean flow velocity (MFV) of the PCA was investigated by transcranial Doppler sonography after photic stimulation of the retina.
