Review of the genus Prolactistes (Heteroptera: Cydnidae), with two new combinations, first Indonesian records and a key to species of the genus

Two species of the genus ParaethusJ. A. Lis, 1994 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cydnidae: Cydninae: Geotomini) are transferred to ProlactistesJ. A. Lis, 2001, resulting in the following new combinations: Prolactistes jani(J. A. Lis, 1995), comb. nov., and Prolactistes lisi(Magnien, 2014), comb. nov. Diagnostic characters for Prolactistes, and a key for its three species are provided. The present note also reports the first Indonesian record for Prolactistes australisJ. A. Lis, 2001 (Ambon Island, Timor) and P. lisi(Ambon Island), both known previously only from Australia.

International audience; Bacterial endosymbiosis is an important evolutionary process in insects, which can harbor both obligate and facultative symbionts. The evolution of these symbionts is driven by evolutionary convergence, and they exhibit among the tiniest genomes in prokaryotes. The large host spectrum of facultative symbionts and the high diversity of strategies they use to infect new hosts probably impact the evolution of their genome and explain why they undergo less severe genomic erosion than obligate symbionts. An exceptional outbreak of the burrowing bug Macroscytus brunneus occurred in summer 2017 on Linosa island (Pelagian Islands, Sicily). Huge numbers of specimens, attracted to the lights of the small village, interfered heavily with human activities for almost three months. The few precedent cases reported in literature are reviewed.

An illustrated catalogue of Cylapinae (Insecta, Heteroptera, Miridae) from French Guiana is provided. Valdasus cerdai, n. sp. is described as new. Cylapus antennatus (Carvalho & Fontes, 1968), C. citus Bergroth, 1922, C. ruficeps Bergroth, 1922, C. tucuriensis (Carvalho, 1989) and Peltidocylapus caudatus Wolski, 2021 are recorded from French Guiana for the first time. First country records of two burrower bugs, Chilocoris laevicollis, and Ch. umbricola (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Cydnidae) from Gabon (Central Africa) are presented. The study was based on the specimens collected by Dr. V. Aellen, a well-known Swiss speleologist, taken from two caves near Lastoursville in the Gabonese Republic. Diagnostic characters for both recorded species are provided, and data on their biology and distribution are summarized.

Till now, the genus Aradus has been represented in Poland by 16 species. Aradus ribauti belongs to the Aradus betulae group and it is the second species from this group found in Poland. This article presents the first three records of Aradus ribauti in our country.

New distributional data concerning 134 species of terrestrial true-bugs in the Bydgoszcz city (N Poland) are presented, including 10 species recorded for the first time from Wiel-kopolsko-Kujawska Lowland, i.e., Aellopus atratus, Deraeocoris flavilinea, Dicyphus annulatus, Drymus ryeii, Emblethis denticollis, E. duplicatus, Ischnocoris angustulus, Pionosomus opacellus, Scolopostethus pilosus, Taphropeltus hamulatus. Taking into account previous literature data, the list of Heteroptera species recorded in the Bydgoszcz city comprises 166 species.

Species of the family Cydnidae (known as the “burrower bugs”) live usually on or in the ground; sometimes they even burrow deep into the soil (e.g., Froeschner 1960; Schaefer 2003; Linnavuori 1993; Lis 1994, Lis et al. 2000). However, data on burrower bugs associated with caves and their environment are very rare; only ten species of three Cydnidae subfamilies were hitherto recorded from this type of habitat (see the checklist at the end of this paper).

Graphosoma lineatum (Linnaeus, 1758) is a characteristic member of the family Pentatomidae. The species is commonly defined as a rare southern element which has colonized the Polish territory in recent years. The data presented in this study clearly indicates that the species is a regular member of Polish fauna, recorded throughout the country since the beginning of the nineteenth century, including stations located in the northern part of the country.
