Oxygenation Status of Gynecologic Tumors: What is the Optimal Hemoglobin Level?
2002
Tumor hypoxia has been linked to the development of treatment resistance, tumor progression, and poor prognosis. Since anemia is a major causative factor for the development of hypoxia, the association between blood hemoglobin concentration (cHb) and tumor oxygenation was examined in this study.Pretreatment O(2) tension (pO(2)) measurements were performed in 59 primary carcinomas of the uterine cervix in which a stringent histopathologic examination of the electrode tracks was mandatory in order to exclude measurements in necrotic, stromal or normal cervical tissue. In addition, pO(2) readings in twelve primary cancers and 17 local recurrences of vulvar cancers were included in this study. …
Rasburicase-induced Methemoglobinemia: A Case Report and Literature Review.
2020
Rasburicase is a recombinant urate oxidase enzyme indicated for tumor lysis syndrome, a potential life-threatening oncologic emergency that occurs most commonly during initial chemotherapy for hematological malignancies. As a result of the defects in the physiological antioxidant pathway, erythrocytes of patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency are not protected against the oxidizing stress exerted by hydrogen peroxide generated with the administration of rasburicase. The authors report a 14-year-old patient, diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, who developed methemoglobinemia and hemolytic anemia with low oxygen saturation after starting steroids, hyperhydr…
Methemoglobinemia Associated with Late-Onset Neonatal Sepsis: A Single-Center Experience
2019
Objective Methemoglobinemia (MetHb) is a rare congenital or acquired cause of infantile cyanosis. We examined the role of MetHb in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Study Design A retrospective observational study was conducted reviewing blood gas analyses of hospitalized newborns over a 2-year period. MetHb-positive patients (MetHb >1.8%) were matched with a control group for gestational age, weight, disease, and illness severity at admission. Maternal, neonatal, clinical, and laboratory parameters were collected and analyzed in both groups. Results MetHb incidence was 6%. The mean MetHb in the case group was 7.2%, and the first positive samples were observed at a mean of 22 days …
Agua de bebida en el lactante
2004
