Wetland Restoration with Hydrophytes: A Review

2021

Restoration cases with hydrophytes (those which develop all their vital functions inside the water or very close to the water surface, e.g., flowering) are less abundant compared to those using emergent plants. Here, I synthesize the latest knowledge in wetland restoration based on revegetation with hydrophytes and stress common challenges and potential solutions. The review mainly focusses on natural wetlands but also includes information about naturalized constructed wetlands, which nowadays are being used not only to improve water quality but also to increase biodiversity. Available publications, peer-reviewed and any public domain, from the last 20 years, were reviewed. Several countrie…

Perception of pathogenic or beneficial bacteria and their evasion of host immunity: pattern recognition receptors in the frontline

2015

International audience; Plants are continuously monitoring the presence of microorganisms to establish an adapted response. Plants commonly use pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) to perceive microbe- or pathogen-associated molecular patterns (MAMPs/PAMPs) which are microorganism molecular signatures. Located at the plant plasma membrane, the PRRs are generally receptor-like kinases (RLKs) or receptor-like proteins (RLPs). MAMP detection will lead to the establishment of a plant defense program called MAMP-triggered immunity (MTI). In this review, we overview the RLKs and RLPs that assure early recognition and control of pathogenic or beneficial bacteria. We also highlight the crucial func…

Polifarmācijas izplatība, riski un medikamentu, uztura bagātinātāju, augu valsts preparātu lietošana Latvijā

2017

Sabiedrībai novecojot un palielinoties hronisku saslimšanu skaitam, pieaug vairāku medikamentu vienlaicīga lietošana. Darbā apkopota informācija par polifarmācijas, poliherbācijas termina skaidrojumiem, izplatību, riskiem, nevēlamas polifarmācijas mazināšanas iespējām. Veicot daļēji strukturēto interviju vecāka gadagājuma cilvēkiem Rīgas aptiekās un aptaujājot cilvēkus internetā, tika pētīta polifarmācijas izplatība, medikamentu, uztura bagātinātāju, augu valsts preparātu lietošana Latvijā. Regulāri piecus un vairāk recepšu medikamentus lietoja 31.6% vecāka gadagājuma cilvēku (daļēji strukturēto interviju respondentu vidējais vecums 71.6 gadi) un 11.5% Latvijas iedzīvotāju vecumā no 17 līdz…

Adventices : effets directs et indirects du réchauffement

2021

Extraction Methods of Essential Oils From Herbs and Spices

2017

International audience; This chapter describes both conventional and non‐conventional extraction methods of essential oils (EOs) from herbs and spices. Although hydrodistillation, steam distillation and solvent extraction are the most applied methods, several non‐conventional technologies have been evaluated, especially in respect to EO recovery, and a great potential has been attributed to these non‐conventional methods. For instance, ultrasound, microwave, supercritical fluid, pulsed electric fields, ohmic‐heating and microwave (MW) extraction techniques applied alone or combined with other techniques are potent tools to obtain EOs in a 'green' way from natural resources such as aromatic …

Ķimenēs!

2021

Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) application to the detection of mutations endowing herbicide resistance

2014

The Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies offer tremendous possibilities for accurate detection of mutations endowing resistance. Yet, their use for this purpose has not emerged in crop protection. We aim at promoting NGS use for herbicide resistance diagnosis. In an exemplary study, we describe a simple procedure for this purpose, useable by virtually any scientist and implementing freely accessible programs for the analysis of NGS data. Three PCR amplicons encompassing seven codons of the ALS gene that are crucial for herbicide resistance were sequenced using non-quantified pools of crude DNA extracts from 40 plants in each of 28 field populations of two species of barnyard-grass:…
