This publication is with permission of the rights owner freely accessible due to an Alliance licence and a national licence (funded by the DFG, German Research Foundation) respectively. The investigations presented here show the results of an epigraphic analysis on ancient Roman lead ingots rescued from shipwrecks along the coast of Sicily (Italy) by means of Neutron Tomography (NT). The artefacts, including a lead horn, can be dated back to a period between the 3rd and 1st century BC. The three dimensional NT reconstructions helped the decipherment of hidden s…

Reason in Vital Experience in Ortega Y Gasset

1998

Ortega nourished himself from two intellectual sources, Marburg’s Neo Kantianism and Husserl’s Phenomenology. He confesses his link with Kantianism, when he says that for ten years he lived inside Kantian thought. But his thought evolved through the influence of various philosophical trends from the realm of pure philosophy to others nearer to life. In his search for the roots of reason, he passed from pure reason to an impure (vital and historical) form of reason, which we will name globally “the reason of vital experience” in our context.

The problem and the solution of accounting in a text

1993

Abstract An interpretative reading of accounting texts published in management accounting journals is offered. The selected articles were read many times, but the phenomenological hermeneutic description is developed through a process of “three readings.” The first reading proposes that the texts share a pattern of preach: They start with an introduction, describe a failing accounting, and remind the reader that through change, better accounting is achievable. In the second reading it is noticed, however, that the idea of “defining a problem and finding a solution with the help of accounting” receives a very different expression in different articles. Consequently, the third reading suggest…

The hermeneutics of sport: limits and conditions of possibility of our understandings of sport

2016

AbstractIn this paper, linguistic-analytic philosophy has been identified as the dominant methodology in the philosophy of sport. The hermeneutics of sport is contrasted with linguistic-analytic philosophy by analyzing Heidegger’s view of Truth. In doing so, two views of philosophy are compared: ontology or description. Sport hermeneutics’ task has to do with description. Hermeneutical explanations of sport attempt to describe the facticity of sport. Such a facticity is formed by three moments: embodiment, capabilities, and tradition. They are not components of sport that can be identified as essential components but rather, they are identifiable only for analytic purposes. These three abov…
