Zirconium and hafnium fractionation and distribution of Rare Earth Elements in neutral–alkaline waters: Case study of Lake Van hydrothermal system, T…

2021

International audience; We investigated the distribution of Zr, Hf, and rare earth elements (REE) as the sum of lanthanides plus Y in the hydrothermal system in the Lake Van area of south-eastern Turkey. This system is characterised by water with variable pH in alkaline conditions resulting from hydrothermal CO2 upraise and neoformation of calcite minerals in near equilibrium with the interacting waters. Zr, Hf, and REE determinations were carried out for aqueous phases and suspended solids in lake water and surrounding thermal springs. We found that dissolved Hf is partitioned relative to Zr during calcite formation and that such fractionation is a function of the Ca2+ activity in warm wat…

Theragnostic Use of Radiolabelled Dota-Peptides in Meningioma: From Clinical Demand to Future Applications.

2019

Meningiomas account for approximately 30% of all new diagnoses of intracranial masses. The 2016 World Health Organization’s (WHO) classification currently represents the clinical standard for meningioma’s grading and prognostic stratification. However, watchful waiting is frequently the chosen treatment option, although this means the absence of a certain histological diagnosis. Consequently, MRI (or less frequently CT) brain imaging currently represents the unique available tool to define diagnosis, grading, and treatment planning in many cases. Nonetheless, these neuroimaging modalities show some limitations, particularly in the evaluation of skull base lesions. The emerging evidence supp…

Short-term response of the Ca cycle of a montane forest in Ecuador to low experimental CaCl2 additions

2013

The tropical montane forests of the E Andean cordillera in Ecuador receive episodic Sahara-dust inputs particularly increasing Ca deposition. We added CaCl2 to isolate the effect of Ca deposition by Sahara dust to tropical montane forest from the simultaneously occurring pH effect. We examined components of the Ca cycle at four control plots and four plots with added Ca (2 x 5kg ha(-1) Ca annually as CaCl2) in a random arrangement. Between August 2007 and December 2009 (four applications of Ca), we determined Ca concentrations and fluxes in litter leachate, mineral soil solution (0.15 and 0.30 m depths), throughfall, and fine litterfall and Al concentrations and speciation in soil solutions…

Spatial throughfall heterogeneity in a montane rain forest in Ecuador: Extent, temporal stability and drivers

2009

Summary The drivers of spatial throughfall heterogeneity are still not fully understood. At an undisturbed forest site in the Ecuadorian Andes with ca. 2600 mm of annual rainfall we determined the accuracy of throughfall measurements by comparing Hellmann-type funnel gauges with troughs. At the same undisturbed and a managed, selectively-logged forest site we determined spatial variability of throughfall, temporal stability of spatial variability and the controls of spatial throughfall variability using a 4-year dataset in weekly resolution. There were no systematic differences between the collected volumes of funnel gauges and troughs. Based on the statistical distribution of annual throug…

Spatio-temporal variation of throughfall in a hyrcanian plain forest stand in Northern Iran

2018

Abstract Elucidating segregation of precipitation in different components in forest stands is important for proper forest ecosystems management. However, there is a lack of information on important rainfall components viz. throughfall, interception and stemflow in forest watersheds particularly in developing countries. We therefore investigated the spatiotemporal variation of important component of throughfall for a forest stand in a Hyrcanian plain forest in Noor City, northern Iran. The study area contained five species of Quercus castaneifolia, Carpinus betulus, Populus caspica and Parrotia persica. The research was conducted from July 2013 to July 2014 using a systematic sampling method…

The effect of the fused-ring substituent on anthracene chalcones: crystal structural and DFT studies of 1-(anthracen-9-yl)-3-(naphthalen-2-yl)prop-2-…

2018

Two new anthracene chalcones, namely 1-(anthracen-9-yl)-3-(naphthalen-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-one and 1-(anthracen-9-yl)-3-(pyren-1-yl)prop-2-en-1-one, have been successfully synthesized and the effect of the different fused ring substituent system attached to the anthracene chalcone derivative investigated. These compounds show a very narrow band gap due to the large p-conjugated systems, making them promising candidates as optoelectronic materials. Hirshfeld surface analysis has been carried out to show the contribution of intermolecular contacts and weak interactions to supramolecular stabilization.

Role of pulp in flavor release and sensory perception in orange juice

2004

This work elucidates the role of suspended solids in sensorial perception and flavor release in orange juice. The coarsest pulp (insoluble particles with a diameter of2 microm) accounted for two major physicochemical effects in orange juice samples: it retained large amounts of aroma compounds, including terpenes and aldehydes, and modified the rheological properties of the juice matrix. These phenomena strongly affected the chemical composition of the vapor phase in the juice samples. On the other hand, orange juice cloud (finest insoluble particles with a diameter of2 microm) also showed a strong retention effect on ethyl butanoate or hexanal, probably due to the occurrence of molecular i…

Primary- and secondary-octahedral distortion factors in bis(1,4-H2-1,2,4-triazolium) pentabromidoantimonate(III) –1,4-H2-1,2,4-triazolium bromide

2015

Abstract The analysis of octahedral distortion in the structure of inorganic–organic (C2H4N3)2[SbBr5]·(C2H4N3)Br (BTPTB) bromidoantimonate(III) determined at 295 and 85 K, supported by the Hirshfeld surface analysis and the data retrieved from the Cambridge Structural Database, is presented. The anionic substructure of BTPTB is built from distorted [SbBr6]3− octahedra that are connected by the cis corners forming polymeric one-dimensional [{SbBr5}n]2n− zig-zag chains running parallel to the a axis and isolated Br− ions. The organic substructure consists of the fully ordered 1,4-H2-1,2,4-triazolium cations. The oppositely charged substructures are linked by the system of N(C)–H⋯Br hydrogen b…
