Corneo-scleral contact lenses in an uncommon case of keratoconus with high hyperopia and astigmatism

2017

Purpose: To analyse the visual quality achieved by fitting corneo-scleral contact lenses (CScL) in an uncommon case of bilateral keratoconus, high hyperopia and astigmatism. Methods: A 45-year-old man presented for eye examination due to the unsatisfactory quality of his vision wearing soft toric contact lenses. He presented high hyperopia and astigmatism with bilateral keratoconus. He was fitted with CScL to correct his irregular astigmatism and ocular aberrations. A diagnostic trial set was used in the fitting process and he was assessed according to standardised fitting methodology. Visual acuity, corneal topography, biometry and ocular aberrations were evaluated. The follow-up period wa…

A code to calculate (high order) Bessel functions based on the continued fractions method

1993

Abstract We have developed a fast code to calculate Bessel functions of integer and fractional order based on the continued fractions method. This algorithm is specially useful in the case of Bessel functions of high order because it does not require any recalculation using normalization relations.

Classical chaos and harmonic generation in laser driven nanorings

2016

A quantum ring driven by an intense laser field emits light in the form of high-harmonic radiation resulting from the strong acceleration experienced by the active electrons forced to move on a curved trajectory. The spectrum of the emitted light is rich and strongly dependent on the parameters of the problem. In order to investigate the physical origin of such variability, we focus on the seemingly simple problem of a laser-driven charge constrained to a ring from a classical standpoint. As it turns out, the dynamics of such a classical electron is governed by a nonlinear equation which results into a chaotic motion - by nature depending on the initial conditions in an unpredictable way. O…

The B0.5 IVe CoRoT target HD 49330. II. Spectroscopic ground-based observations

2009

International audience; Context: We present spectroscopic ground-based observations of the early Be star HD 49330 obtained simultaneously with the CoRoT-LRA1 run just before the burst observed in the CoRoT data. Aims: Ground-based spectroscopic observations of the early Be star HD 49330 obtained during the precursor phase and just before the start of an outburst allow us to disantangle stellar and circumstellar contributions and identify modes of stellar pulsations in this rapidly rotating star. Methods: Time series analysis (TSA) is performed on photospheric line profiles of He I and Si III by means of the least squares method. Results: We find two main frequencies f1 = 11.86 c d-1 and f2 …

Multipole compensation scheme for LHC low-beta insertions

1997

The LHC dynamic aperture in Physics conditions is determined by the field errors in the low-b quadrupoles and these errors set a lower limit to the value of b*. The associated aberrations have been computed with the transfer matrix method which gives particularly simple and efficient formulae for the case of low-b insertions. These formulae have been applied to the LHC case to design a multipole compensation system. The efficiency of the method has been assessed by trajectory tracking.

Stability of gyrotron operation in very high-order modes

2012

This study was motivated by the desire to increase the power, which can be delivered by gyrotrons in long pulse and continuous regimes. Since the admissible power level is determined by the density of ohmic losses in resonator walls, to increase the radiated power a gyrotron should operate in higher order modes. Using an existing gyrotron developed for plasma experiments in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor as a base model, the stability of operation of such a gyrotron in modes with larger number of radial variations was studied. It is shown that the power level achievable in such gyrotrons in stable single mode regimes is close to 1.5 MW. The power level 1.7–1.8 MW can b…

Rotational Doppler Frequency Shift from Time‐Evolving High‐Order Pancharatnam–Berry Phase: A Metasurface Approach

2021

The Doppler frequency shift of sound or electromagnetic waves has been widely investigated in many different contexts and, nowadays, represents a formidable tool in medicine, engineering, astrophysics, and optics. Such effect is commonly described in the framework of the universal energy-momentum conservation law. In particular, the rotational Doppler effect has been recently demonstrated using light carrying orbital angular momentum. When a wave undergoes a cyclic adiabatic transformation of its Hamiltonian, it is known to acquire the so-called Pancharatnam–Berry (PB) phase. In this work, an experimental evidence of the direct connection between the high-order PB phase time evolution on th…

Control of the high harmonic generation spectra by changing the molecule-laser field relative orientation

2010

The time dependent Schrodinger equation of a homonuclear diatomic molecule in the presence of a linearly polarized laser field is numerically solved by means of a split-operator parallel code. The calculations are carried out by assuming a single active electron model with fixed nuclei; a simplified two-dimensional model of the system is used. The highly nonlinear response of the electron wave function to the laser electric field stimulates the molecule to emit electromagnetic radiation consisting of a wide plateau of odd harmonics of the laser field. It is shown that the emitted spectrum can be finely controlled by changing the angle between the laser electric field and the molecular axis;…

Angular harmonic dependence from a 3D-H2+ Molecular Ion

2012

The time-dependent Schroedinger equation of a H2+ molecular ion in the presence of a linearly polarized laser field is numerically solved by means of a split-operator parallel code. The electron, driven by the laser electric field, emits electromagnetic radiation whose HHG spectrum (shown in Figure 1) can be finely controlled by changing the angle between the laser electric field and the molecular axis. The numerical results confirm that the structure of the spectra strongly depends on this angle. In particular the correlation between the laser orientation (with respect to the molecular axis) and the intensity of various harmonic peaks are displayed in Figure 2.

Laser induced ultrafast H2+ dinamic and attosecond generation

2012

We examine the possibility that a H2+ molecular ion driven by a linearly polarized laser field can be considered as a source of attosecond pulses. The emisseion is investigated taking into account the role of the internuclear distance and by changing the angle between the laser field and the molecular axis. We find that the attosecond pulses emission happens when the electron cloud is over one nucleus; on the contrary, when the elctron is travelling between the two nuclei the attosecond emission do not take place.
