Prevalence of elongation and calcification patterns of elongated styloid process in south india

2012

Objective: Very few studies have been reported in the literature classifying the elongation and calcification patterns of styloid process. The present study was done to investigate the prevalence of elongation and calcification patterns of styloid process in patients attending a dental institution in south India. Study design: 600 digital panoramic radiographs of patients with dental problems were obtained from the outpatient department of the Dental institution. The apparent length of the styloid process was measured by a single experienced oral radiologist, with the help of the measuring tools on the accompanying software. The type of elongation and calcification patterns of each elongate…

Strategies to improve vitamin D status in northern European children: exploring the merits of vitamin D fortification and supplementation.

2006

Adequacy of vitamin D in children in Europe has been the focus of a number of investigations. The results of measuring serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D show high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency during the winter with lower prevalence during the summer. National policies on food fortification or individual supplementation with vitamin D have been recently revisited by the individual countries and the European Union as a whole. Optiford is a project managed by a coalition of scientists formed to optimize vitamin D fortification in the northern European Countries, was given the task to decide if food fortification with vitamin D is feasible and to provide a scientific basis for setting t…

Latent class identification in wheezing preschool children

2016

Background and aim Since the forced oscillation technique (FOT) has not been used in previous studies on wheezing phenotyping in preschool children, we applied FOT in a large series of outpatients visited at IBIM. Methods We analyzed 256 consecutively enrolled ≤5 years children with doctor diagnosis of wheezing. Latent Class Analysis (LCA) was performed considering the following personal characteristics: type, cause, recurrence in last 12 months, respiratory resistance (Avr_R(8)), atopy, history of eczema, rhinitis and upper airways infections. High resistance is defined as positive residual of regression on sex, age, height and weight. Risk factors were considered meaningful when they yiel…

The all-on-four treatment concept: Systematic review

2017

Objectives To systematically review the literature on the "all-on-four" treatment concept regarding its indications, surgical procedures, prosthetic protocols and technical and biological complications after at least three years in function. Study design The three major electronic databases were screened: MEDLINE (via PubMed), EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library of the Cochrane Collaboration (CENTRAL). In addition, electronic screening was made of the 'grey literature' using the System for Information on Grey Literature in Europe - Open Grey, covering the period from January 2005 up to and including April 2016. Results A total of 728 articles were obtained from the initial screening process. O…

Molecular chaperones and mirnas in epilepsy: Pathogenic implications and therapeutic prospects

2021

Epilepsy is a pathologic condition with high prevalence and devastating consequences for the patient and its entourage. Means for accurate diagnosis of type, patient monitoring for predicting seizures and follow up, and efficacious treatment are desperately needed. To improve this adverse outcome, miRNAs and the chaperone system (CS) are promising targets to understand pathogenic mechanisms and for developing theranostics applications. miRNAs implicated in conditions known or suspected to favor seizures such as neuroinflammation, to promote epileptic tolerance and neuronal survival, to regulate seizures, and others showing variations in expression levels related to seizures are promising ca…

[Current developments and perspectives on the diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence and genital prolapse in women].

2012

As a key area of gynaecology, urogynaecology has undergone impressive changes in the past few years. Together with the high prevalence of functional pelvic floor disorders, modern anaesthesia procedures and the introduction of new, innovative minimally invasive operation techniques have led to a dramatic increase in the number of operations for incontinence and prolapses. The increasingly subtle diagnostic options, such as, e. g., 2D and 3D sonography of the pelvic floor provide unambiguous findings and facilitate decision making. Tension-free vaginal slings in retro-pubic, trans-obturator or single-incision techniques show a high success rate with few complications and have almost complete…

Application of molecular topology to the prediction of antiparasitic activity against Giardia intestinalis and Trichomonas vaginalis of 2-Acylamino-n…

2020

Bibliometric analysis of the scientific production of literature on peri-implant diseases in the Web of Science.

2021

Background The exponential increase in implant placement worldwide and the high prevalence of its associated pathologies have prompted an increasing contribution by the scientific community to the number of publications related to peri-implant pathologies. Purpose The objective of this work is to carry out a bibliometric analysis of scientific production on peri-implant diseases. Materials and methods The search strategy included titles, keywords, and abstracts based on the term peri-implantitis and all the possible combinations existing in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of the main collection of Web of Science. Two limits were established: the document typology was limited to Artic…
