Simultaneous temperature and ac-current measurements for high voltage lines using fiber Bragg gratings

2006

We present an optical ac-current sensor, based on a fiber Bragg grating stretched by a magnetostrictive material, which enables a simultaneous measurement of high ac-currents and temperature. The proposed system is appropriated to monitor high voltages lines and can be installed without interrupting the current line, being characterized by an inherent electrical isolation.

High-Voltage Injuries by Contact With Overhead Lines: Case Reports of Two Young Girls

2021

Abstract High-voltage burn injuries are rare in the pediatric age group, but can lead to devastating, severe sequelae. We present the cases of two young girls who suffered high-voltage burn injuries due to direct contact with overhead power lines. Both patients came from difficult psychosocial backgrounds. The injuries resulted in severe long-term consequences and functional deficits.

High-sensitive switchable photodetector based on BiFeO3 film with in-plane polarization

2015

A high-sensitive and fast-response photodetector based on BiFeO3 (BFO) ferroelectric thin film is fabricated using coplanar electrode configuration. A large photocurrent/dark current ratio is found up to two orders of magnitude at 1 V bias. Enhanced photocurrent and rectification behavior of the photodetector are observed after applying high voltage pulses to the BFO film. The short-circuit current varies systematically with the poling process and increases linearly with the light density. On the contrary, the open-circuit voltage keeps as a constant during the measurements. We attribute these behaviors to the depolarization field and the interfacial fields at the film-electrode interfaces.…

Relative luminosity measurement of the LHC with the ATLAS forward calorimeter

2010

In this paper it is shown that a measurement of the relative luminosity changes at the LHC may be obtained by analysing the currents drawn from the high voltage power supplies of the electromagnetic section of the forward calorimeter of the ATLAS detector. The method was verified with a reproduction of a small section of the ATLAS forward calorimeter using proton beams of known beam energies and variable intensities at the U-70 accelerator at IHEP in Protvino, Russia. The experimental setup and the data taking during a test beam run in April 2008 are described in detail. A comparison of the measured high voltage currents with reference measurements from beam intensity monitors shows a linea…

The DEPFET based Focal Plane Detectors for MIXS on BepiColombo

2010

X-ray detectors based on arrays of DEPFET macropixels, which consist of a silicon drift detector combined with a detector/amplifier structure DEPFET as readout node, provide a convenient and flexible way to adapt the pixel size of a focal plane detector to the resolving power of any given X-ray optical system. Macropixels combine the traditional benefits of an SDD, like scalability, arbitrary geometry and excellent QE even in the low energy range, with the advantages of DEPFET structures: Charge storage capability, near Fano-limited energy resolution, low power consumption and high speed readout. Being part of the scientific payload of ESA's BepiColombo mission, the MIXS instrument will be …

A large Streamer Chamber muon tracking detector in a high-flux fixed-target application.

1999

Arrays of limited streamer tubes of the Iarocci type were deployed in our experiment at CERN as part of a forward muon detector system with provisions for the beam to pass through the center of each panel in the array. A total of 16 4 m x 4 m panels were assembled with inductive readout strips on both sides of each panel. An active feedback system. was deployed to regulate the high voltage to the streamer tubes to insure a constant efficiency for minimum ionizing particles. The arrays were operated in this environment for over five years of data taking. Streamer tube track-reconstruction efficiencies and tube replacement rates are reported. A large proportional drift chamber with two-dimensional read-out

1976

Abstract The construction and performance of a large drift chamber are described, which has a sensitive area of 5 m2 and an average chamber thickness of 0.55 × 10−3 radiation lengths. Simultaneous sense wire- and high voltage read-out gives a good time correlation with ajitter of 2.0 ns fwhm. Measurements with a collimated radioactive α-sources resulted in a time resolution of 4.3 ns fwhm corresponding to a space resolution of 0.20 mm fwhm at the sense wire. The space resolution at the high voltage plane is about 25 mm fwhm.

Performance Studies of Pixel Hybrid Photon Detectors for the LHCb RICH Counters

2006

The Pixel Hybrid Photon Detector is a vacuum tube with a multi-alkali photo cathode, high voltage cross-focused electron optics and an anode consisting of a silicon pixel detector bump-bonded to a readout CMOS electronic chip fully encapsulated in the device. The Pixel HPD fulfils the requirements of the Ring Imaging Cherenkov counters of the LHCb experiment at LHC. The performances of the Pixel HPD will be discussed with reference to laboratory measurements, Cherenkov light imaging in recent beam tests, image distortions due to a magnetic field.

Einzelnachweis von Elektronen (15 bis 50 keV) in Kernphotoplatten

1960

Nuclear track emulsions (Ilford G 5) were used for counting of single slow electrons. They had to be accelerated by high voltage of about 30 kV and were incident vertically. The pulsed electron-beam was measured in a cage, single pulses were shot on the emulsion. The developed plates were photographed under the microscope and the tracks counted on the enlarged copies. The results are: about 40% of incoming electrons can be found as tracks in the emulsions. This number varies between different emulsions (of same type G 5), within one plate the number of tracks is better proportional to the number of electrons than between different plates. With a counting resultx one may expect the true resu…
