Management of High-Pressure Injection Hand Injuries: A Multicentric, Retrospective, Observational Study

2019

Hand injuries after high-pressure injection are a medical emergency. These events occur frequently in workers during industrial cleaning, painting, and lubrication, and may have devastating consequences, leading to eventual amputation and poor functional outcomes. The authors have investigated the evolution, management, and outcome. Medical records of occupational medicine units and hand surgery units were collected in order to spot the high-pressure gear accident cases. Records were analyzed by dividing the subjects into two groups: those treated within 6 h and after 6 h of the trauma. A follow-up was carried out at least 1 year after treatment

Toward Sustainable PLA-Based Multilayer Complexes with Improved Barrier Properties

2019

Poly(lactic acid) or PLA is currently considered as one of the most promising substitutes of conventional plastics, with low environmental impact, especially for food packaging applications. Nevertheless, some drawbacks, such as high permeability to oxygen, are still limiting its industrial applications. The objective of this study was to highly increase the oxygen barrier performance of PLA without compromising its sustainable nature and following the principles of circular economy perspective. Coproducts coming from mill industries, such as wheat gluten proteins (WG), were used to produce PLA-WG-PLA multilayer complexes with improved barrier performance. Different technologies of industri…

Temperature measurement in gas mixtures by femtosecond Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy

2003

European Conference on Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy (ECONOS) MAR 30-APR 01, 2003 BESANCON, FRANCE; The potential of femtosecond Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy (RIPS) for the simultaneous determination of temperature and concentrations was investigated. These measurements were related to the rotational time response of the molecular gas mixture, which was measured as a function of the pump-probe time delay. The change of the polarizability anisotropy with respect to the vibrational levels was taken into account. The results of temperature measurements in pure CO2 showed good agreement with the values obtained by a thermocouple. The RIPS technique was also applied to a CO2-N2 gas m…
