Facile synthesis and characterization of monocrystalline cubic ZrO2 nanoparticles

2007

Abstract Crystalline ZrO2 nanoparticles were prepared from zirconium isopropoxide by slow hydrolysis and subsequent hydrothermal treatment of solutions containing various amounts of sodium hydroxide at 180 °C. Whereas moderately basic solutions lead to the formation of nanoparticles of monoclinic ZrO2 with plate-like morphology, and nanoparticles of the cubic ZrO2 high-temperature polymorph with diameters of approx. 5 nm were obtained from strongly basic solutions. The morphology, structure and properties of as-synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using HRTEM, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, UV–vis, PL spectroscopy and BET measurements. The formation of both, the monoclinic and the cubic p…

On the high resolution spectroscopy and intramolecular potential function of SO2

2009

Abstract Two weak stretching bands, ν 1  + 3 ν 3 and 3 ν 1  +  ν 3 , of the sulfur dioxide molecule have been recorded at high resolution and analyzed for the first time with using a Fourier transform Bruker IFS-120 HR interferometer. About 1000 transitions with J max .  = 51, K a max . = 16 , and 900 transitions with J max .  = 53, K a max . = 16 have been assigned to the bands ν 1  + 3 ν 3 and 3 ν 1  +  ν 3 , respectively. Analysis of the recorded spectra was made using the model of isolated vibrational states. Parameters obtained from the fit reproduce the initial experimental ro-vibrational energies with the rms deviation of 0.0006 and 0.0012 cm −1 for the bands, 3 ν 1  +  ν 3 and ν 1  …

Analysis of highly excited 'hot' bands in the SO2 molecule: ν2 + 3ν3 - ν2 and 2ν1 + ν2 + ν3 - ν2

2010

International audience; We set up a variational procedure of assignments of transitions and we applied it to the analysis very weak 'hot' bands, v(2) + 3v(3) - v(2) and 2v(1) + v(2) + v(3) - v(2), of the SO2 molecule. As the first step of the study, the 'cold' bands, 3v(3) and 2v(1) + v(3), are re-analysed and transitions belonging to those bands are assigned up to the values of quantum numbers J(max.) = 60, K-a(max.) = 19, and J(max.) = 69, K-a(max.) = 20 for the bands 3v(3) and 2v(1) + v(3), respectively. After 'cleaning' the experimental spectrum from transitions belonging to the 3v(3) and 2v(1) + v(3) bands, a variational procedure was used that allowed us to assign 230 and 115 transiti…

High-resolution far-infrared synchrotron FTIR spectroscopy and analysis of the ν 7 , ν 19 and ν 20 bands of trioxane

2022

Rovibrational bands spectra of three ν20, ν7 and ν19 bands of 1, 3, 5 – trioxane (H2CO)3 were recorded in the 50–650 cm−1 range using a long path absorption cell coupled to a high resolution Fourier transform spectrometer and synchrotron radiation at the AILES beamline of the SOLEIL synchrotron. More than 16 000 lines were assigned with a dRMS better than 0.17 × 10−3 cm−1. Two different formalisms (tensorial and Watson) were used to derive accurate rotational and quartic parameters for the three bands and for the first time, a precise determination of Coriolis parameter and q+ l−doubling constant for both ν20 and ν19 perpendicular bands was obtained. Last, each set of spectroscopic paramete…

Application of a simple algorithm to estimate daily evapotranspiration from NOAA–AVHRR images for the Iberian Peninsula

2007

International audience; Evapotranspiration (ET) is a key process in land surface–atmosphere studies. It mainly depends on water availability and incoming solar radiation and then reflects the interactions between surface water processes and climate. In this paper, a methodology for retrieving ET from low spatial resolution remote sensing data is presented. It is based on the evaporative fraction concept, and it has been applied to Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AHVRR) data acquired over the Iberian Peninsula. The methodology does not require other data than the data provided by the satellite and may be applied to areas with almost spatially constant atmospheric conditions and whi…

Anatase photocatalyst with supported low crystalline TiO2: The influence of amorphous phase on the activity

2018

Abstract In a previous study on commercial TiO2 nanoparticles (J. Soria et al.) we had shown that the superficial disordered layers influence their textural and reactivity features. In the present work we used well crystallized anatase particles (commercial TiO2, BDH) as support of different amounts of titania powders, prepared by TiCl4 hydrolysis and constituted by nanocrystals diluted into an amorphous matrix. The reactivity of these photocatalysts has been tested for the selective oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol to aldehyde in aqueous suspension. The catalyst characteristics have been studied using adsorption-desorption isotherms, TEM, HRTEM, TGA, PL, DRIFT-IR, and 1H MAS-NMR spectr…

Hydrogen peroxide sensors for cellular imaging based on horse radish peroxidase reconstituted on polymer-functionalized TiO2 nanorods

2011

We describe the reconstitution of apo-horse radish peroxidase (apo-HRP) onto TiO2 nanorods functionalized with a multifunctional polymer. After functionalization, the horse radish peroxidase (HRP) functionalized TiO2 nanorods were well dispersible in aqueous solution, catalytically active and biocompatible, and they could be used to quantify and image H2O2 which is a harmful secondary product of cellular metabolism. The shape, size and structure of TiO2 nanorods (anatase) were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution TEM (HRTEM), electron diffraction (ED) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The surface functionalization, HRP reconstitution and catalytic activity were con…

Multifunctional polymer-derivatized γ-Fe2O3 nanocrystals as a methodology for the biomagnetic separation of recombinant His-tagged proteins

2008

Abstract Multifunctional polymer-derivatized superparamagnetic iron oxide (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles were prepared for biomagnetic separation of histidine-tagged recombinant proteins building up a faster and efficient method for protein separation by making use of their intrinsic magnetic properties. Using polymer bound γ-Fe2O3 nanocrystals, a 6× histidine-tagged recombinant protein (silicatein) with a molecular weight of 24 kDa has been isolated and purified. The supermagnetic iron oxide nanocrystals were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), SQUID and Mossbauer and the polymer functionalization of the γ-Fe2O3 nanocrystals was monitored by UV–vi…

Growth of fibrous aggregates of silica nanoparticles: Fibre growth by mimicking the biogenic silica patterning processes

2009

We describe the self-assembly of discrete SiO2 nanofibers via grafting of silicatein side chains to a polymer backbone. The covalent binding of silicatein to the backbone of the polymer is based on the affinity of the nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) side chain, which serves as a ligand for the immobilization of His-tagged silicatein. The surface charge and the bulkiness of the protein moieties prevent the entropically favoured coil formation of the polymer and force it to adopt an open chain structure after hydrolysis of the silica precursors. The probes were characterized by scanning force microscopy (SFM) and optical light microscopy. Surface complexation of the resulting silica nanoparticles…
