Changes in the 5?-untranslated region of the rbcL gene accelerate transcript degradation more than 50-fold in the chloroplast of Chlamydomonas reinha…

2003

Using uidA (beta-glucuronidase; GUS) reporter gene constructs, the 5'-untranslated region (UTR) of the Chlamydomonas chloroplast rbcL gene was screened by deletion and mutational analysis for the presence of a promoter element that previous studies implied to reside within the first 63 base pairs of the UTR. Deleting a large segment of the rbcL 5'UTR in a 3'--5' direction to position +36, changing the remaining 36 base pairs at the 5' end of the UTR, and increasing by five base pairs the distance between the rbcL 5'UTR and the basic promoter element located at position -10 did not abolish transcription from the basic rbcL promoter. It is concluded that the apparent loss of transcriptional a…

Structure-function analysis of peroxisomal ATP-binding cassette transporters using chimeric dimers

2014

Background: Peroxisomal ABC transporters are predicted to function as homodimers in mammals. [br/] Results: ABCD1 interacts with ABCD2. Chimeric proteins mimicking full-length dimers represent novel tools for functional study. Artificial homodimers and heterodimers are functional. [br/] Conclusion: Interchangeability between ABCD1 and ABCD2 is confirmed, but PUFA transport depends on ABCD2. [br/] Significance: For the first time, heterodimers in mammals are proven to be functional.[br/] ABCD1 and ABCD2 are two closely related ATP-binding cassette half-transporters predicted to homodimerize and form peroxisomal importers for fatty acyl-CoAs. Available evidence has shown that ABCD1 and ABCD2 …

Ceramica indigena dall'abitato di Himera

2010

The research faces, through the evidence analysis in a zone of the upper town settlement, the problem of indigenous pottery meaning in Himera. It as been assured that both the impressed/incised and painted wares are (present) in inconsiderable amount; that shapes are mostly referred to tableware and storage ware; that syntax and decorative patterns fall within indigenous production’s repertory of Western Sicily; that, on the base of discovery ‘s context, most of evidence are placed between the second half of 7th and the first decades of 6th century B.C., in the framework of the first colonial settlement. The pottery evidence in buit-up area of the greek colony in linked to wedding between G…

The Beginning of Western Greek Amphorae Production in Western Sicily: Archaeometric and Archaeological Studies on 6th–5th Centuries BCE Amphorae Manu…

2020

About 560 western Greek amphorae (6th–5th centuries BCE) re-used in enchytrismos burials were unearthed in the necropolis of the Dorian-Chalcidian colony of Himera in northwestern Sicily. Among the most striking issues is the determination of their geographical provenance. For this purpose, ceramic samples chipped from freshly broken surfaces of all the amphorae were first subdivided into macrofabrics by the use of a hand lens. Thereon, the samples were studied in accordance with standardized methods by the use of reflected light microscopy. Due to the special focus of our project on the characterization of Sicilian productions, a selection of amphorae which showed visible, macroscopic affi…

Contatto culturale e interrelazioni tra Greci e indigeni nel territorio imerese.

2010

The aim of this work is to discuss interrelations and cultural contacts between the Greek colonists of Himera and the native peoples and communities in the chora of the colony, mainly going up the three valleys of the Northern Imera, Torto and San Leonardo rivers and the hilly watershed area between the Northern Imera and the Southern Imera River. The intensive and systematic survey of all these areas allowed us to connect settlements with their surrounding areas and to identify a sequence of districts (Serra di Puccia, Terravecchia-Tutusino on the Imera; Mura Pregne, Colle Madore on the Torto; Cozzo Sannita, Pizzo Pipitone on the San Leonardo river), identified not only on geomorphologic a…

Human interleukin-6 facilitates hepatitis B virus infection in vitro and in vivo.

2000

Abstract Background and aim. Research on hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in vivo has been limited due to the absence of a suitable animal model. We have developed a human–mouse radiation chimera in which normal mice, preconditioned by lethal total body irradiation and radioprotected with SCID mouse bone marrow cells, are permissive for engraftment of human hematopoietic cells and solid tissues. This resulting human–mouse model, which comprises three genetically disparate sources of tissue, is therefore termed Trimera. This study was aimed at assessing the effect of human IL-6 on HBV infection in vivo in Trimera mice. Methods. Trimera mice were transplanted with human liver tissue fragment…

CHIMERA: A BIM+GIS SYSTEM FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE

2020

Abstract. In the last years, many researches are conducted on systems for Cultural Heritage, trying to adapt BIM systems to CH needs; furthermore, the interest around the integration of BIM systems and GIS systems spreads. Chimera, presented in this paper, is the final product of about 8 years of research on this broad topic and has been specifically conceived for the realm of CH. It joins the small group of ready-to work information systems that allow the concurrently use of different integrated data, as 3D models, point clouds but also 2D maps or images. It also presents different functionalities that allow to work at a multiscale approach, including switching from a “single object level”…

Sulfonamide moiety as "molecular chimera" in the design of new drugs.

2021

Background: The -SO2NH- group is of great significance in modern pharmaceutical use since, in sulfa-drugs, it is possible to introduce easily chemical modifications, and even small changes may lead to an improved version of an already existing drug. Objective: This paper aims to describe updated information in the sulfonamide field with a particular focus on new mechanisms of action, especially if discovered by employing computational approaches. Methods: Research articles that focused on the use of the sulfonamide moiety for the design, synthesis, and in vitro/in vivo tests of various diseases were collected from various search engines like PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Scop…
