In the present note, the occurrence and distribution of this species is reviewed based both on the review of the available literature data and field collecting. Although a noteworthy reduction in the distribution range of the species seems to have taken place in Sicily in the course of the XX century, Hirudo verbana was confirmed to be still present in several sites located both within and out of Natura2000 sites. La tesi és un estudi semàntic diacrònic dels cinquanta zoònims llatins més productius de significats figurats o metasèmies; alhora constitueix una anàlisi motivacional de la creació de lèxic nou en general, i zoonímic en particular. Es constata que els zoònims constitueixen segurament el camp semàntic de més capacitat per a un ús figurat metafòric o metonímic. S'analitzen, doncs, les 16 derives semàntiques dels zoònims llatins, que per ordre de major freqüència a menor freqüència són les següents: noms de persona (antropònims), noms de plantes o fruits (fitònims), noms de caràcter, especialment insults i termes afectuosos (etònims), noms de lloc (topònims), noms d'animals procedents de noms…
