Zusammenfassung Wir haben das Leberbiopsiematerial von 22 im Serum HBsAg-positiven Patienten mit der Fluoreszierenden Antikorpertechnik (FAT) auf die Gewebelokalisation von HBsAg und HBcAg untersucht. Purpose: To assess the benefit and the effect of intraarterial lipiodol application on histological analysis of patients suspected of having HCC. To determine whether lipiodol marking leads to a better biopsy result and how lipiodol or a transarterial chemoembolization influences the histological diagnosis. Materials and Methods: Two groups of patients were examined. Group A included 14 patients highly suspected of having an HCC which had previously been unsuccessfully biopsied. A transarterial embolization with lipiodol was performed in these patients to mark intrahepatic tumors which could not otherwise be defined in unenhanced CT. A biopsy was then repeated. Immunohistochemical Study as a Tool in Differential Diagnosis of Pediatric Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor

Malignant rhabdoid tumors (MRTs) are aggressive childhood neoplasms, occurring mainly in the kidney and brain. We describe 2 unusual cases of extrarenal and noncranial location (liver and soft tissue with dissemination) mimicking hepatoblastoma, neuroblastoma or Ewing sarcoma. Both cases revealed a polyphenotypic profile, combined with cytokeratin, vimentin, and CD99 expression. INI1/BAF-47 showed negative protein nuclear expression in both cases, suggesting a diagnosis of MRT. An extensive immunohistochemical panel was performed to exclude pediatric tumors reminiscent of MRT. The prevalent porcine helminth, Ascaris suum, compromises pig health and reduces farm productivity worldwide. The closely related human parasite, A. lumbricoides, infects more than 800 million people representing a disease burden of 1.31 million disability-adjusted life years. The infections are often chronic in nature, and the parasites have a profound ability to modulate their hosts' immune responses. Development of the filiform hairs on the cerci of Gryllus bimaculatus Deg. (Saltatoria, Gryllidae)

The filiform hairs, mechanoreceptors of Gryllus, pass through six developmental stages during the last larval stage. The cytoplasm of their sense cells suggests intensive synthesis of protein for cellular metabolism and intercytoplasmic exchange of material via glial evaginations. Ultrahistochemical tests demonstrated acid phosphatase in the lysosomes as well as in components of the Golgi apparatus. There was no significant change in the appearance of the sense cell cytoplasm, indicating a maintained functional state also during molting. Unusual basement layer in the midgut of gammaridean Niphargus virei Chevreux (Crustacea, Amphipoda).

The basement membrane of the midgut and posterior caeca epithelium in the gammaridean amphipod Niphargus virei Chevreux, 1896 is made of an unusual structure. This basal lamina, properly called “basal layer”, shows a dense sheet formed by a system of dense hexagonal plates connected by thin filaments. Histochemical studies and enzymatic reactions lead to the conclusion that these structures are proteinaceous, without collagenous protein, and embedded in a neutral polysaccharide matrix. The possible mechanical significance of these mesenteric structures is discussed.

Early calcification patterns of the iliac arteries and their relation to the arterial structure

Gross calcifications of the common iliac and internal iliac arteries represent a common finding in newborn children and infants. In both arteries, the calcific deposits regularly appear in certain areas of the arterial luminal surface only, whereas the other parts of the arterial wall remain free of gross lesions even in cases with a pronounced calcification. In the common iliac artery, the lateral wall of the vessel and the adjacent sectors of the anterior and posterior wall represent the predilection site of calcific deposits. Proteoglycan synthesis by cultured human chondrocytes.

Iliac crest biopsies are important in the detection of human skeletal dysplasias. Therefore, culture of these cells may serve as a valuable method for studying proteoglycan metabolism in chondrocytes of individuals with skeletal abnormalities. Morphological and biochemical studies were performed on human iliac crest chondrocytes grown in monolayer and in agarose gels. Two proteoglycan populations of different hydrodynamic size and glycosaminoglycan composition were synthesized by cells grown in monolayer.
