A critical review of the bibliography on the History of Translation in Spain

2013

This article deals critically and succinctly with the development of the studies on translation history in Spain, starting from counting the bibliographic production (researches, studies, articles, publications, etc.). Given the existing thematic dispersion and the increase that these studies have experienced in the last few decades, this historiographical review highlights the need for a synthesis in future works establishing periods and classification in order to provide a panoramic and practical view to research and theorizing.

Reconstruction of the Rib Vaults of the Hypostyle Hall in the Maniace Castle of Siracusa After the 1693 Earthquake

2016

ABSTRACTBuilt in the first half of the 13th century on behalf of the Emperor Frederick II, the Maniace Castle of Siracusa focuses its enigma in the hypostyle hall (which was composed of 25 quadripartite rib vaults) and the design criteria adopted for its implementation. Recent research and a careful rereading of the documentary “restoration project” after the earthquake of 1693 have offered new tools to understand the construction techniques and building procedures for the entire organism. It has been possible to demonstrate that the different material (white limestone and volcanic stone) used for the vaults is, in fact, a product of reconstruction. The constructive node, which historiograp…

2017

The study examines the critical point of view and research methodology that was applied by Francisco Ruiz Ramon (1930-2015) to analyze Spanish Theater, from its excellent Historia del teatro espanol (1967) to his latest research focused on Pedro Calderon de la Barca (1600-1681) and, especially, in its review as a contemporary classic in the history of European theater. To do it, the study pays particular attention to Ruiz Ramon’s biographical and academic circumstances and the critical currents that inspired its «Calderon reading» model, which contributed decisively in the renewal of Golden Age Theather historiography

L’Ordine di Malta nella storiografia italiana. La fine di una latitanza?

2021

This paper provides an historiographical overview of Italian studies on the Order of Malta, which have been publ…

Contextualizing Unguru’s 1975 Attack on the Historiography of Ancient Greek Mathematics

2016

In 1975 S. Unguru published his controversial paper on the need to rewrite the history of ancient Greek mathematics. The origin of the paper is sketched according to Unguru’s own story, and then the paper is contextualized in some of the historiographic and disciplinary discussions and shifts taking place during the decade before its publication. The focus is not only on the history of (Greek) mathematics (J. Klein , A. Szabo , M. S. Mahoney ), but a rather broad approach is taken to capture the wider (U.S.-American, academic) discourse around questions of professionalisation of history of science/mathematics. This analysis shows the complexity of the discursive field in which Unguru’s pape…

Conclusion: A Conversation

2017

In the concluding chapter the editors of the volume take a conversational look into the producing process of Nordic Girlhoods: New Perspectives and Outlooks. The authors discuss key contemporary issues and future perspectives in Nordic girlhood studies and foreground the political relevance of the research field in the contemporary societal situation. They call for reflexive and critical theorizations on what counts as the Nordic, especially when the girl is to be found in the middle of several nationalistic desires and conservative political discourses.
