To contribute to the debate on the process of transition to democracy, this research aims at the analysis of the City Counciland Transit tardofranquismo since the death of dictator Francisco Franco until the first democratic elections. Franco Municipalities strongly marked by the figure of the mayor, president of the corporation and visible head of the power of the dictatorship in the municipality, have been little studied by historians, partly because of the transitional political model prevailing until recent years. The history of urbanization has barely been analyzed for the Mezzogiorno in Italy. This has partly been due to the persistence of stereotypes in Italian historiography, and partly due to the current definition of city functions. The article results from a meeting of specialists in Early Modern southern Italian history organized to undertake the rigorous and detailed study of the common features and the differences within the urban systems of the Mezzogiorno, in order to synthesize the specific character of urbanization in southern Italy over the long term. The author outlines the main areas under study and establishes its methodological foundations and first hypotheses.

This dissertation explores how Pedro Juan Gutiérrez's fiction corresponds to the Castrocommunist utopia. The study has three goals: (1) to explain how Castro-communism has formed, altered and impacted on Cuban literature; (2) to investigate how Gutiérrez's fiction corresponds to the Castro-communist utopia and ideals; and (3) how his parodic (anti)detective story Nuestro GG en La Habana (2004) is based on and relates to Cuban socialist detective stories, Graham Greene's spy farce Our Man in Havana, Castro-communist historiography and the social, ideological and economic shifts in Cuban society during the 1990s.
