Tritylpyridinium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate as an efficient activator for “constrained-geometry” catalysts in ethylene polymerization

2004

Abstract Ethylene polymerization with linked amido-cyclopentadienyl or “constrained-geometry” titanium catalysts, Ti(η 5 :η 1 -C 5 Me 4 SiMe 2 N t Bu)X 2 (X=Me, Bz, Cl), activated by tritylpyridinium tetrakis(entafluorophenyl)borate, [Ph 3 C(NC 5 H 5 )] [B(C 6 F 5 ) 4 ], and silica-supported tritylpyridinium tetrakis(entafluorophenyl)borate (PySTB) was found to proceed with high activity. 1 H NMR spectra in CD 2 Cl 2 suggest that ([Ti(η 5 :η 1 -C 5 Me 4 ,SiMe 2 N t Bu)Me (NC 5 H 5 )] + is formed as the main cationic species. Using the heterogeneous cocatalyst PySTB in hexane, unexpectedly high ethylene polymerization activity was achieved, giving high molecular weight polyethylenes with exc…

Hydroformylation of 1-Octene in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide: Can Alkylation of Arylphosphines with tertButyl Groups Lead to Soluble and Active Catal…

2008

Abstract The possibility of increasing the solubility and activity of rhodium catalysts in the hydroformylation of 1-octene in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) by attachment of tertbutyl (tBu) groups to the triarylphosphine ligand was investigated. The solubility of the parent and monoalkylated ligands in a mixture of gaseous components (CO2/CO/H2) was evaluated by visual observation in a view cell. In the case of triphenylphosphine, introduction of one tertbutyl group does not seem to affect the solubility of the phosphine. When the behaviour of (diphenyl)biphenylphosphine and (para-tertbutyldiphenyl)biphenylphosphine was compared a clear solubilising effect of the tBu group was observ…

Imidazolium and Potassium Hydrogen Carbonate Salts as Ecofriendly Organocatalysts for Oxazolidinone Synthesis

2016

International audience; Although oxazolidinones are valuable intermediate compounds for industrial applications, no synthetic method is suitable for their production on a large scale owing to the use of reagents/catalysts that are hazardous or toxic to human health or ecotoxic for the environment. In this manuscript, we describe new and efficient catalysts, that is, the nontoxic hydrogen carbonate anion in combination with a potassium or diisobutylimidazolium ([iBu(2)IM]) countercation, for the conversion of -amino alcohols into cyclic oxazolidinones in high yields of 69 to 90%. Depending on the catalytic conditions, both catalysts could be easily recovered from the crude reaction products …

Ultra-Low Catalyst Loading as a Concept in Economical and Sustainable Modern Chemistry: The Contribution of Ferrocenylpolyphosphane Ligands

2007

The challenge of sustainability in modern chemistry will be met with new technologies and processes provided significant progress is made in several key research areas, such as the expansion of chemistry from renewable feedstock, the design of environmentally benign chemicals and solvents, the minimization of depletive resources, and the development of high-performance catalysis. In this prospect, ligand chemistry is a pivotal science that links modern-organic,-inorganic, -organometallic, and -coordination chemistry through a vast number of valuable applications, precisely associated to catalysis. We review in this article our recent work on catalysis promoted by original ferrocenyl tetra-,…

Sequential Suzuki/Asymmetric Aldol and Suzuki/Knoevenagel Reactions Under Aqueous Conditions

2012

Here we describe for the first time a sequential Suzuki/asymmetric aldol reaction. Such sequential approach was achieved through the combined use of an ionic liquid supported palladium catalyst and the organocatalyst trans-4-(2,2-diphenylacetoxy)proline. Suzuki and asymmetric aldol reactions were performed under aqueous conditions. The use of a palladium catalyst under basic conditions allowed also the first example of sequential Suzuki/Knoevenagel reaction. Reactions were carried out under aqueous conditions and products were isolated in good to high yields and, in the case of the Suzuki/aldol reaction, with diastereoselectivities up to 91:9 and enantioselectivities up to at least 99 %.

Synthesis, reactivity, crystal structures and catalytic activity of new chelating bisimidazolium-carbene complexes of Rh

2003

A series of new bridging, chelating and pincer N-heterocyclic carbenes of RhI and RhIII have been obtained under mild conditions. The compounds have been fully characterised and their crystal structures determined. The chelate-pincer coordination of the ligands means that the stability of these compounds is significantly greater than other carbene complexes of Rh. The compounds have been tested in catalytic reactions such as hydrogen transfer from alcohols to ketones, and hydrosilylation of terminal olefins and alkynes; they show a high activity for both processes. Accelerated dinuclear palladium catalyst identification through unsupervised machine learning.

2021

Although machine learning bears enormous potential to accelerate developments in homogeneous catalysis, the frequent need for extensive experimental data can be a bottleneck for implementation. Here, we report an unsupervised machine learning workflow that uses only five experimental data points. It makes use of generalized parameter databases that are complemented with problem-specific in silico data acquisition and clustering. We showcase the power of this strategy for the challenging problem of speciation of palladium (Pd) catalysts, for which a mechanistic rationale is currently lacking. From a total space of 348 ligands, the algorithm predicted, and we experimentally verified, a number…

Benzoato and Thiobenzoato Ligands in the Synthesis of Dinuclear Palladium(III) and ‐(II) Compounds: Stability and Catalytic Applications

2015

New palladium(III) compounds of formula Pd2[(C6H4)PPh2]2[OXC(C6H5)]2Cl2 [3a (X = O); 3b (X = S)] were obtained by the oxidation of the analogous palladium(II) ones with PhICl2 and were characterized by 31P, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopy at 223 K. Compound 3a was also structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods, which revealed a Pd–Pd distance of 2.5212(10) A. DFT calculations were conducted to study the stability of all of these new palladium(III) and -(II) compounds with focus on the influence of the OS substitution of the donor atom in the ligand. The palladium(II) compounds Pd2[(C6H4)PPh2]2[OXC(C6H5)]2 [2a (X = O), 2b (X = S)] were also tested as precatalyst in …
