Bionanocomposite Blown Films: Insights on the Rheological and Mechanical Behavior.

2021

In this work, bionanocomposites based on two different types of biopolymers belonging to the MaterBi® family and containing two kinds of modified nanoclays were compounded in a twin-screw extruder and then subjected to a film blowing process, aiming at obtaining sustainable films potentially suitable for packaging applications. The preliminary characterization of the extruded bionanocomposites allowed establishing some correlations between the obtained morphology and the material rheological and mechanical behavior. More specifically, the morphological analysis showed that, regardless of the type of biopolymeric matrix, a homogeneous nanofiller dispersion was achieved

Acoustic vibrations of anisotropic nanoparticles

2009

Acoustic vibrations of nanoparticles made of materials with anisotropic elasticity and nanoparticles with non-spherical shapes are theoretically investigated using a homogeneous continuum model. Cubic, hexagonal and tetragonal symmetries of the elasticity are discussed, as are spheroidal, cuboctahedral and truncated cuboctahedral shapes. Tools are described to classify the different vibrations and for example help identify the modes having a significant low-frequency Raman scattering cross-section. Continuous evolutions of the modes starting from those of an isotropic sphere coupled with the determination of the irreducible representation of the branches permit some qualitative statements t…

From equilibrium to steady state: The transient dynamics of colloidal liquids under shear

2008

We investigate stresses and particle motion during the start up of flow in a colloidal dispersion close to arrest into a glassy state. A combination of molecular dynamics simulation, mode coupling theory and confocal microscopy experiment is used to investigate the origins of the widely observed stress overshoot and (previously not reported) super-diffusive motion in the transient dynamics. A link between the macro-rheological stress versus strain curves and the microscopic particle motion is established. Negative correlations in the transient auto-correlation function of the potential stresses are found responsible for both phenomena, and arise even for homogeneous flows and almost Gaussia…

Highly Robust but Surface-Active: N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Stabilized Au25 Nanocluster as a Homogeneous Catalyst

2019

<div> <div> <div> <p>Surface organic ligands play a critical role in stabilizing atomically precise metal nanoclusters in solutions. However, it is still challenging to prepare highly robust ligated metal nanoclusters that are surface-active for liquid-phase catalysis without any pre-treatment. Herein, we report a novel N-heterocyclic carbine-stabilized Au25 nanocluster with high thermal and air stabilities as a homogenous catalyst for cycloisomerization of alkynyl amines to indoles. The nanocluster, characterized as [Au25(iPr2-bimy)10Br7]2+ (iPr2-bimy=diisopropyl-benzilidazolium) (1), was synthesized by direct reduction of AuSMe2Cl and iPr2- bimyAuBr with NaBH4 in o…

Fundamental characterisation of reclaimed asphalts: The importance of testing homogeneous specimens

2013

This study highlights the importance of defining appropriate specimen manufacturing procedures when assessing the fundamental properties of reclaimed asphalt (RA) mixes for further modelling purposes. Two gyratory compactor procedures were used: the first leading to specimens with a non-uniform air voids distribution and the second tailored to obtain homogeneous specimens. The study was performed by using three stone mastic asphalts incorporating up to 30% of RA but designed to have identical properties. A detailed characterisation of the loose mixes and binders, an X-ray computer tomography micro-structural study of the manufactured specimens and a further mechanical characterisation showe…

Crystallization kinetics of colloidal model suspensions: recent achievements and new perspectives

2014

Colloidal model systems allow studying crystallization kinetics under fairly ideal conditions with rather well characterized pair interactions and minimized external influences. In complementary approaches therefore experiment, analytic theory and simulation have been employed to study colloidal solidification in great detail. These studies were based on advanced optical methods, careful system characterization and sophisticated numerical methods. Both the effects of the type, strength and range of the pair-interaction between the colloidal particles and those of the colloid-specific polydispersity were addressed in a quantitative way. Key parameters of crystallization were derived and comp…

Advances in organic and organic-inorganic hybrid polymeric supports for catalytic applications

2016

In this review, the most recent advances (2014–2016) on the synthesis of new polymer-supported catalysts are reported, focusing the attention on the synthetic strategies developed for their preparation. The polymer-supported catalysts examined will be organic-based polymers and organic-inorganic hybrids and will include, among others, polystyrenes, poly-ionic liquids, chiral ionic polymers, dendrimers, carbon nanotubes, as well as silica and halloysite-based catalysts. Selected examples will show the synthesis and application in the field of organocatalysis and metal-based catalysis both for non-asymmetric and asymmetric transformations.

Influence of the parameters molecular structure and granularity on the compactibility of a powder

1995

Drug Dev. Ind. Pharm. ISI Document Delivery No.: RP128 Times Cited: 3 Cited Reference Count: 14 Andres, c ndiaye, a thomas, c tromelin, a chaillot, b pourcelot, y; International audience; The aim of this study was to determine whether it is possible to obtain better characterization of materials in order to find out if these one are suitable in Quality Assurance for direct tableting. We tried to show that a methodological approach combining chemical, physical and technological aspects could control the direct compression process. We chose orthoboric acid as a study model for the direct compression. From a chemical point of view, our findings show only one crystalline molecular structure (RX…

Direct formation of Sub-Micron and Nanoparticles of a bioinspired coordination polymer based on Copper with Adenine

2017

We report on the use of different reaction conditions, e.g., temperature, time, and/or concentration of reactants, to gain control over the particle formation of a bioinspired coordination polymer based on copper(II) and adenine, allowing homogeneous particle production from microto submicro-, and up to nano-size. Additionally, studies on this reaction carried out in the presence of different surfactants gives rise to the control of the particle size due to the modulation of the electrostatic interactions. Stability of the water suspensions obtained within the time and pH has been evaluated. We have also studied that there is no significant effect of the size reduction in the magnetic prope…
