La Costituzione del 1812 trasformò i feudi in allodi ed eliminò le giurisdizioni feudali. L’obiettivo, già auspicato da Caracciolo e Caramanico, fu raggiunto solamente in un momento particolare della storia siciliana e grazie all’intervento del plenipotenziario inglese Sir Bentinck l’istituto giuridico fu abolito. Abstract Building on the assumption that the Memorial in Honor of Italians Fallen in Nazi Extermination Camps (situated in Auschwitz I, Block 21) expresses the meta-reflexive inclination that strengthened the twentieth century (the capacity of that century to think of itself as a subject), this article aims to highlight and illustrate the dual philosophical significance of the Memorial. From the perspective of the philosophy of history, this philosophical significance, which has a symbolic value, leads us to investigate an organic and historically embodied conception of deportation. The research that Jane and Peter Schneider carried out in Sicily, in the little Agrigentine town of Villamaura in the 1970s and later in the area of Palermo until 2000, made an important contribution to the work of social scientists who have chosen Sicily as a site from which to contribute to the debates on the Mafia, codes of honor, reproductive behavior, and the relationship between modernity and backwardness and between society and culture. Mafia Women: A Study on Language and Mental Representations of Women Engaged with Mafia Members

For a long time, women in the Mafia were considered victims who were unaware of the activities of the men in their families. However, it has recently been demonstrated that these women may play an important role in the organisation, particularly in the transmission of Mafia values. In this study, we explored the representations of self, relationships, and the Mafia world in women engaged with Mafia members. This was done by means of in-depth interviews and computer-assisted text analysis. A cluster analysis was applied to words used by the women in the interviews. Fast noniterative orbital localization for large molecules

We use Cholesky decomposition of the density matrix in atomic orbital basis to define a new set of occupied molecular orbital coefficients. Analysis of the resulting orbitals ("Cholesky molecular orbitals") demonstrates their localized character inherited from the sparsity of the density matrix. Comparison with the results of traditional iterative localization schemes shows minor differences with respect to a number of suitable measures of locality, particularly the scaling with system size of orbital pair domains used in local correlation methods. This chapter presents wavelets and wavelet packets in the spaces of periodic splines of arbitrary order, which, in essence, are the multiple generators for these spaces. The SHA technique provides explicit representation of the wavelets and wavelet packets and fast implementation of the transforms in one and several dimensions.
