Influence of the concentration of oxygen on the swimming path of Brachionus plicatilis (Rotifera)
1993
Brachionus plicatilis females were maintained for > 24 hours in water where the concentration of oxygen was precisely controlled (spherical flasks with ≥ 6 mg 1−1 or < 0.5 mg 1−1; food = dead Tetraselmis sp.). Each female was randomly taken from one flask and quickly placed in an observation chamber containing the same experimental conditions. The swimming path was videotaped (5 minutes); then the size of the female was measured. The tape was analyzed by automatic tracking (25 x, y coordinates of the center of the animal, in a 512 × 512 pixels space). The swimming path was analyzed for ~45 females in both treatments. The speed (mm s−1 body length−1) was calculated for all trajectories, or o…
Hierarchical fuzzy/Lyapunov control for horizontal plane trajectory tracking of underactuated AUV
2010
A new hierarchical closed loop fuzzy control system for horizontal plane trajectory tracking of underactuated Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) is presented. A model for the AUV is formulated introducing a polar coordinates transformation for the velocities in the body fixed frame. It is employed to control the unactuated sway direction, the longitudinal position and the yaw by using the surge force and the yaw torque only. The highest level control is developed by employing a fuzzy inference system for obtaining the guidance control laws. The properties of the fuzzy system ensure forward surge velocity, fast convergence and Lyapunov's stability of the motion errors. A new low level kine…
Adaptive changes in motor control of rhythmic movement after maximal eccentric actions.
2007
Effects of an exhaustive eccentric exercise (EE) on the motor control of maximal velocity rhythmic elbow extension/flexion movement (RM) were examined in eight male students. The exhaustive EE consisted of 100 maximal eccentric actions of the elbow flexor muscles. Movement range was 40-170 degrees in EE at an angular velocity of 2rads(-1). A directive scaled RM of 60 degrees with visual feedback was performed in a sitting position, with the right forearm fixed to the lever arm in horizontal plane above protractor. Surface electromyographic activity (EMG) was recorded from the biceps brachii (BB) and triceps brachii (TB) muscles. Maximal isokinetic eccentric and concentric tests and RM test …
Design of a sun tracker for the automatic measurement of spectral irradiance and construction of an irradiance database in the 330-1100 nm range
2007
Abstract An automatic global and direct solar spectral irradiance system has been designed based on two LICOR spectroradiometers equipped with fibre optics and remote cosine sensors. To measure direct irradiance a sun tracker based on step motors has been developed. The whole system is autonomous and works continuously. From the measurements provided by this system a spectral irradiance database in the 330–1100 nm range has been created. This database contains normal direct and global horizontal irradiances as well as diffuse irradiance on a horizontal plane, together with total atmospheric optical thickness and aerosol optical depth.
The Polynominal Approximation in Design of Rectification of the Roadway Overhead Crane
1993
In this chapter a new method for processing surveying results of the overhead crane in horizontal plane is presented.
Modeling of Resonance Phenomena in Self-Oscillating System of Agricultural Machines
2021
Factors affecting the interaction of the active cultivator paw with the soil environment are considered in this article. It was established that the active oscillating effect of tillage machines on the environment leads to reduction in its traction characteristics, and the design of symmetrical movable paw is capable of self-oscillation in a horizontal plane. It was developed the theoretical model of oscillatory movements that takes into account the main structural parameters of working bodies represented by symmetrical cultivator paws of the active type. For laboratory studies, a circular soil channel is used, which ensures the movement of the soil relative to the stationary working body f…
Convective Roll Instabilities of Vertical Throughflow with Viscous Dissipation in a Horizontal Porous Layer
2009
Published version of an article from the journal: Transport in Porous Media. The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11242-009-9417-y The vertical throughflow with viscous dissipation in a horizontal porous layer is studied. The horizontal plane boundaries are assumed to be isothermal with unequal temperatures and bottom heating. A basic stationary solution of the governing equations with a uniform vertical velocity field (throughflow) is determined. The temperature field in the basic solution depends only on the vertical coordinate. Departures from the linear heat conduction profile are displayed by the temperature distribution due to the forced con…
UV Index experimental values on vertical surfaces
2011
UV erythemal irradiance (UVER) has been studied on a horizontal plane and on vertical surfaces with different orientations in Valencia, Spain. The evolution of the solar noon value and the maximum daily value over a year has been analysed from the instantaneous UVER taken every five minutes on the horizontal plane and on vertical surfaces with north, south, east and west orientations. The annual evolution of these values shows a sinusoidal form for all planes except for the vertical south plane with maxima in spring and autumn. The UV Index (UVI) on these planes was also determined. The percentage of coincidence of the UVI at solar noon and of the maximum daily UVER values, considering diff…
A histological study of a femur of Plagiosuchus, a Middle Triassic temnospondyl amphibian from southern GEmany, using thin sections and micro-CT scan…
2013
AbstractThe histology of a femur of Plagiosuchus, a Middle Triassic temnospondyl amphibian, is described on the basis of two supplementary methods: classic thin sectioning and micro-CT scanning. In addition, the effectiveness of high-resolution micro-CT scanning for histological analysis is assessed. A classic, mid-shaft thin section of the femur was prepared, but prior to slicing two micro-CT scans were made. One of these has an image stack of a total of 1,024 images in the horizontal plane and a slice thickness of 87.8 μm, so that the entire bone could be captured, while the second was at mid-shaft region only, yet with a higher resolution of 28.3 μm and an image stack of 787 images in th…
UV Index on Tilted Surfaces
2007
Solar ultraviolet erythemal irradiance (UVER) has been studied on inclined planes with different orientations in Valencia, Spain. To do this a platform was designed that could turn through 90 degrees on its own axis. The radiometers were inclined at an angle close to the latitude of Valencia (39.5 degrees N). Using two timers the platform could be turned through 90 degrees every 5 min. On clear or partially cloudy days, including those with different turbidity values, it was observed that the UVER showed a maximum at 1200 h GMT, very close to solar noon, in the north and south positions, while the maximum for east and west orientations was found at approximately one hour before and one hour…
