The shell matrix and microstructure of the Ram's Horn squid: Molecular and structural characterization.
2020
20 pages; International audience; Molluscs are one of the most diversified phyla among metazoans. Most of them produce an external calcified shell, resulting from the secretory activity of a specialized epithelium of the calcifying mantle. This biomineralization process is controlled by a set of extracellular macromolecules, the organic matrix. In spite of several studies, these components are mainly known for bivalves and gastropods. In the present study, we investigated the physical and biochemical properties of the internal planispiral shell of the Ram's Horn squid Spirula spirula. Scanning Electron Microscope investigations of the shell reveal a complex microstructural organization. The…

Geochemistry, Sr–Nd–Pb isotopes and geochronology of amphibole- and mica-bearing lamprophyres in northwestern Iran: Implications for mantle wedge het…
2015
Highlights • Northwestern Iranian lamprophyres have alkaline and calc-alkaline nature. • Studied lamprophyres are emplaced during Late Cretaceous to Late Miocene time. • Lamprophyres originated from different metasomatised lithospheric mantle. Abstract Lamprophyres of different age showing distinctive mineralogy, geochemistry and isotopic ratios are exposed in northwestern Iran. They can be divided into Late Cretaceous sannaite, Late Oligocene-Early Miocene camptonite (amphibole-bearing) and Late Miocene minette (mica-bearing) and spessartite (amphibole-bearing) lamprophyres. Sannaites have high-Ti amphibole along with high-Ti and Al clinopyroxene, and they are characterised by homogeneous …
Direct transfer of vitrified rabbit embryos.
1994
In this study we looked at the feasibility of transferring vitrified rabbit embryos directly into recipient does. Compacted morulae were vitrified in a solution of 20% ethylene glycol and 20% dimethyl sulfoxide. After thawing, and without step-wise diluted solution, the vitrified embryos were transferred into the recipient's uterine horns. Survival rate at birth differed from fresh rabbit embryos (40% vs 55%, P0.05). However, the percentage of does that delivered (94%) and the survival rate suggested this method is suitable for both storage and simple transfer of rabbit morulae.
Imidazolium-Functionalized Carbon Nanohorns for the Conversion of CO2 Unprecedented Increase of Catalytic Activity after Recycling
2017
Carbon nanohorns (CNHs) were selected as a novel catalytic platform for the design of imidazolium based hybrid materials able to promote the conversion of carbon dioxide into cyclic carbonates. Several heterogeneous catalysts were prepared using a one-step procedure based on the radical polymerization of various bis-vinylimidazolium salts in the presence of pristine CNHs. The as-synthesized materials were tested for the fixation of CO2 into epoxides. The excellent catalytic performances were evaluated in terms of turnover number and productivity. The versatility of the above hybrids was proved using several epoxides as substrate. Catalysts recyclability was successfully verified for several…
