Influence of basement heterogeneity on the architecture of low subsidence rate Paleozoic intracratonic basins (Reggane, Ahnet, Mouydir and Illizi bas…
2018
The Paleozoic intracratonic North African Platform is characterized by an association of arches (ridges, domes, swells, or paleo-highs) and low subsidence rate syncline basins of different wavelengths (75–620 km). The Reggane, Ahnet, Mouydir and Illizi basins are successively delimited from east to west by the Amguid El Biod, Arak-Foum Belrem, and Azzel Matti arches. Through the analysis of new unpublished geological data (i.e., satellite images, well logs, seismic lines), the deposits associated with these arches and syncline basins exhibit thickness variations and facies changes ranging from continental to marine environments. The arches are characterized by thin amalgamated deposi…
Uczenie poezji amerykańskiej i niemieckiej przez przekład na przykładzie wybranych utworów literackich
2019
Not only is translation of poetry an effective method of teaching poerty in a proper historical context, but also it enhances students acquisition of knowledge about realities of life in foreign countries and different cultures, not to mention the fact that it improves their linguistic competences in both the source and the target languages. What is important, translation is a holistic method, forcing students to think independently.

Abstract. We apply three-dimensional (3-D) thermo-mechanical numerical simulations of the shortening of the upper crustal region of a passive margin in order to investigate the control of 3-D laterally variable inherited structures on fold-and-thrust belt evolution and associated nappe formation. We consider tectonic inheritance by employing an initial model configuration with basement horst and graben structures having laterally variable geometry and with sedimentary layers having different mechanical strength. We use a visco-plastic rheology with a temperature-dependent flow law and a Drucker–Prager yield criterion. The models show the folding, detachment (shearing off) and horizontal tra…

Middle Miocene graben development in Crete and its possible relation to large-scale detachment faults in the southern Aegean
2001
The linkage between the development of south-facing Cretan graben and large-scale detachment faulting in the southern Aegean is unknown. Widespread Serravallian deposits in the Ierapetra graben of Crete supply constraints to Middle Miocene graben development in the southern Aegean. The Ierapetra graben, and by inference the Cretan graben in general, were hitherto believed to have formed as a result of sinistral transpression during N–S shortening. We argue that the formation of the Cretan graben is due to N–S extension. The south-dipping, N–S-extending Kritsa normal fault served as the master fault controlling graben development in the Ierapetra graben. The Kritsa normal fault is either an …
Gravity Anomalies Over The Gongola Arm, Upper Benue Trough, Nigeria
2005
A regional gravity survey of the Gongola Arm of the Benue trough was carried out with the aim of determining structures of interest. The results of the gravity interpretation showed that the area of study is characterized by negative Bouguer anomalies that trend in the NE-SW direction and range in value from -75 to -15 mGal with an average of -42 mGal. A first order polynomial was used to approximate the regional anomalies in the area. The residual gravity anomaly map shows anomalies that range in value from -32 to +20 mGal. 2.5-D modeling of the residual gravity anomalies suggests that the area has a horst and graben structure, with the grabens being as large as 60 km in width and filled w…

Abstract. The Paleozoic intracratonic North African Platform is characterized by an association of arches (ridges, domes, swells or paleo-highs) and low subsidence rate syncline basins of different wavelengths (75–620 km). The structural framework of the platform results from the accretion of Archean and Proterozoic terranes during the Pan-African orogeny (750–580 Ma). The Ahnet and Mouydir basins are successively delimited from east to west by the Amguid El Biod, Arak-Foum Belrem, and Azzel Matti arches, bounded by inherited Precambrian sub-vertical fault systems which were repeatedly reactivated or inverted during the Paleozoic. Major unconformities are related to several tectonic events …
Variabilidad espacial de los cambios de cauce en una rambla mediterránea en las seis últimas décadas (1946-2006)
2014
An analysis of morphological changes during the last six decades is presented for the Rambla de Cervera, a Mediterranean ephemeral stream located in the eastern sector of the Iberian Mountain Range. The studied channel (16.5 km) has two contrasted sectors: a horst confined sector (5.5 km) and a graben sector (11 km). Channel changes were analysed through the analysis of aerial photographs, with geographical information systems (GIS) and comparison of topographic surveys made with a GPS-RTK. Between 1946 and 2006 the Rambla de Cervera, underwent channel adjustments comparable to those observed in other Mediterranean rivers. The gravel channel markedly narrowed, losing width (68.5%) and chann…

Theoretical prediction of rainfall intensity for a small rainfall simulator
2022
In this contribution, a theoretical approach was developed for predicting rainfall intensity for a small rainfall simulator. The developed equation was tested for two different devices and different pressure head and water temperature values. The proposed relationship was found to have a good predictive ability of rainfall intensity. The proposed theoretical approach could be usable with other devices that operate on the same principles of the simulator considered in this investigation.
