The Diagnosis of Disease by Element Analysis

1988

The elemental composition of the human body images in principle the elements of the periodic system. In the literature, about 80 elements are reported to occur in the human body and the number is expected to increase by the introduction of methods more sensitive in detection. The elemental composition in reference man as published (1) is summarized in tab. 1. From the major elements in reference man, the determination of the elements nitrogen, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, chlorine and magnesium are of importance for the diagnosis of diseases. The importance of the element determination for the diagnosis of diseases is also documented by the numbers of element determinations done …

Associations of Sleep Quality, Anxiety, and Depression with Cognitive and Executive Functions among Community-Dwelling Women Aged 65 ≥ Years: A Cross…

2021

Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the associations of sleep quality, anxiety, and depression with cognitive performance, executive functions, and verbal fluency among women aged ≥ 65 years. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 241 women (72.52 ± 3.93 years). Cognitive performance (Mini-Mental State Examination) and impairment (Montreal Cognitive Assessment), verbal fluency (Isaacs test) and executive function (Trail Making Test), Sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep quality Index) and anxiety and depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale) were determined. Food waste and out-of-home-dining: antecedents and consequents of the decision to take away leftovers after dining at restaurants

2021

The rising trend of eating out has contributed noticeably to the increase in food waste generated by the hospitality sector. Therefore, it is essential to understand the drivers of food waste generation and the mitigation intentions of diners. Academic research in the area so far is fragmented, with particularly limited insights regarding the intentions to take away leftovers after dining out. The present study addresses this gap by using the theoretical lens of Behavioural Reasoning Theory (BRT) to examine the antecedents of diners' intentions to take away leftovers and how these are associated with their food over-ordering and leftover reuse routine. The hypothesised associations are test…

Neural and genetic correlates of antidepressant response to sleep deprivation - A functional magnetic resonance imaging study of moral valence decisi…

2007

Context: Total sleep deprivation combined with light therapy causes rapid amelioration of bipolar depression. A polymorphism in the promoter for the serotonin transporter influences both antidepressant response and the structure and function of specific brain areas. Objective: To determine whether antidepressant therapy or the genotype of the serotonin transporter influence the pattern of neural response to a task targeting the depressive biases in information processing (moral valence decision). Design: Before-and-after trial studying the biologic correlates of response to treatment. Setting: University hospital. Patients: Twenty inpatients with bipolar depression. Intervention: Repeated t…

Brodsky y la Navidad: “Dec 24, 1971”

2020

ABSTRACT: Throughout his life, Joseph Brodsky clung stubbornly to a set of habits and tastes. One of his most outstanding and surprising loyalties was his writing a Christmas poem every year, which in time produced around thirty different pieces. Among these is the remarkable «Dec 24, 1971», his last Christmas poem before he left the Soviet Union, which contains a reference to his idea of «empire» –a criticism of totalitarian regimes– plus an idea of Christianity as a religion of hospitality and brotherhood.
 KEYWORDS

RESUMEN: Durante toda su vida, Joseph Brodsky se aferró a algunas costumbres y predilecciones. Una de esta…
