Thermo-hygrometric comfort in hospital rooms conditioned by means of a primary air system and ceiling radiant panels
2008
In this work the first results of experimental research are described, which began in the 2006 summer season and is still underway, on the performance of a primary air system integrated with radiant ceiling panels that runs in the hospital rooms in the maternity ward of the Maggiore Hospital of Bologna. The choice of this kind of environment is based the fact that there is more and more attention toward literature on comfort standards that must be guaranteed in the hospital environment, due to the presence of typically weak users, both from the clinical and psychological point of view. The performance of the air conditioning system is taken into account in relation to the conditions of comf…
Changer pour l'autre. Reprise de l'instance inconditionnelle de l'hospitalité
2019
The author finds in Derrida's reflection on unconditional hospitality a deep bond with the duplication of reason in Kant. The unconditional hospitality appear also at the base of the painting Annunciazione by Alberto Savinio that the author reads trough Derrida's reflection. Reason and art appear to be governed by the same need of the reason.
Il diritto di visita entro i limiti della semplice ragione
2015
The right to visit of which Kant speaks in the “Third definitive article on perpetual peace” requires, precisely because of its theoretical framework, to be inscribed in a broader register, that is to say one that does not only concern the specifically political and legal aspects of the cosmopolitical project, but makes reference to the issue concerning the very sense in which the possession of reason can legitimately be referred to man. Only thus is it possible theoretically to access in an informed way the main sense of the Kantian cosmopolitical project and the theme of universal hospitality. And this is perhaps the way in which Kant himself, in responding to the urgent issues of his day…
Sangre de nobles, mártires y pecadores. Los caballeros de San Juan entre la reforma religiosa y la vida militar
2018
After the fall of Rhodes in 1522, the Order of St. John needed to recover new headquarters (which were finally established in Malta in 1530) and its reputation as militia Christi. This Religion in arms had now to redraft its chivalrous ideals within the new context of the Reformation and the Catholic Renewal. However, Hospitallers met this challenge partially and late, although they represented themselves as belonging to this glorious Religion. Such a dialectic between practice and theory is proved, for example, by an apologetic book published in 1619 in Italy and Spain, as well as by unpublished instructions in the late seventeenth century directed at the chaplains providing religious supp…

Association of Anticholinergic Burden with Cognitive and Functional Status in a Cohort of Hospitalized Elderly: Comparison of the Anticholinergic Cog…
2013
Abstract Background Drugs with anticholinergic effects are associated with adverse events such as delirium and falls as well as cognitive decline and loss of independence. Objective The aim of the study was to evaluate the association between anticholinergic burden and both cognitive and functional status, according to the hypothesis that the cumulative anticholinergic burden, as measured by the Anticholinergic Cognitive Burden (ACB) Scale and Anticholinergic Risk Scale (ARS), increases the risk of cognitive decline and impairs activities of daily living. Methods This cross-sectional, prospective study (3-month telephone follow-up) was conducted in 66 Italian internal medicine and geriatric…
PROGNOSTIC VALUE OF ESTIMATED GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE IN HOSPITALIZED ELDERLY PATIENTS
2013
A multicenter observational study, REPOSI (REgustri POliterapie Società Italiana di Medicina Interna), was conducted to assess the prognostic value of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) on in-hospital mortality, hospital readmission and death within 3 months, in a sample of elderly patients (n=1,363) admitted to 66 internal medicine and geriatric wards. Bases on eGFR, calculated by the new Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) formula, subjects at hostpital admission were classified into three groups: group 1 with normal eGFR (60 ml/min/1.73m2, reference group), group 2 with moderately reduced eGFR (30-59 ml/min/1.73 m2) and group 3 with severely reduced eGFR (<30 ml/m…

OBJECTIVES: The U.L.I.S.S.E. study is aimed at describing older patients who are cared for in hospitals, home care or nursing homes in Italy. DESIGN: The U.L.I.S.S.E. study is an observational multicenter prospective 1-year study. SETTING: Overall, 23 acute geriatric or internal medicine hospital units, 11 home care services and 31 nursing homes participated in the study. MEASUREMENTS: The patient's evaluation was performed using comprehensive geriatric assessment instruments, i.e. the interRAI Minimum Data Set, while data on service characteristics were recorded using ad-hoc designed questionnaires. RESULTS: The older subjects who are in need of acute and long term care in Italy have simil…
