Inguinal hernia repair in German military hospitals.

2005

ABSTRACT The inguinal hernia repair continues to be the most common operation in general surgery. Discussing the latest scientific findings, we have prepared this article to present a state-of-the-art approach to the inguinal hernia repair. This approach is used for discussing the general principles of hernia repair in German military hospitals. Quality assurance requires that all hernias be classified during surgery on the basis of a standardized approach for an objective comparison of treatment and outcomes. Our approach to hernia repair considers the age of the patient, the diameter and location of the hernia and whether or not the herniation is recurrent. The Shouldice technique perform…

The aim of this study was to analyse all hospitalisations related to RS in Silesia – an industrial region covering 12% of the Polish population. Material and methods. We carried out statistical analysis of data contained in stroke questionnaires transferred to the Polish National Health Fund by hospitals in Silesia, Poland, between 2009 and 2015. Results. Respiratory Syncytial Virus: New Challenges for Molecular Epidemiology Surveillance and Vaccination Strategy in Patients with ILI/SARI.

2021

Several respiratory pathogens are responsible for influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe respiratory infections (SARI), among which human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) represents one of the most common aetiologies. We analysed the hRSV prevalence among subjects with ILI or SARI during the five influenza seasons before the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in Sicily (Italy). Respiratory specimens from ILI outpatients and SARI inpatients were collected in the framework of the Italian Network for the Influenza Surveillance and molecularly tested for hRSV-A and hRSV-B. Overall, 8.1% of patients resulted positive for hRSV. Prevalence peaked in the age-groups &lt

COMEPA (COVID-19 Medicina Policlinico Palermo): a study in hospitalized patients

2021

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has dramatically changed our lives. In the past months, hospitals were saturated of patients; therefore, it is still important to have simple and standardized prognostic factors and to evaluate the efficacy and safety of medications commonly used for COVID-19. We aimed to collect data of the patients hospitalized in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics Wards at the University Hospital (Policlinico) ‘P. Giaccone’ in Palermo, Italy (COMEPA, COVID-19 Medicina Policlinico Palermo), with the main purpose of finding prognostic tools that can be easily used in clinical practice in order to identify patients hospitalized for/with COVID-19 at higher risk of negative o…

Garīgās veselības aprūpes pacientu smēķēšanas paradumi klīnikā

2019

Conceptualizing nature-based science tourism: a case study of Seili Island, Finland

2021

Nature-based tourism has been widely addressed, yet research on nature-based science tourism, founded on science, scientific knowledge, and/or engagement in scientific research, is still scarce. Drawing on tourist motivation, nature-based tourism, special interest tourism, and science tourism, a novel theoretical conceptualization of nature-based science tourism was developed. The framework identified three categories of science tourism with intensifying levels of tourists’ interest in scientific knowledge and tourist engagement: tourism based on scientific knowledge, tourism with scientific adventure or volunteering, and scientific research tourism. In the empirical part, the framework was…

Häpeä suomalaisten mielisairaalamuistoissa

2019

Korostunut häpeän tunne liittyy olennaisesti niin mielenterveysongelmiin kuin psykiatriseen hoitotyöhön. Erityisesti mielisairaalaan joutuminen on monelle häpeällinen kokemus, josta on vaikeaa puhua. Tässä artikkelissa tarkastelen mielisairaalakokemuksiin liittyvää häpeää  psykiatristen sairaaloiden potilaiden, omaisten ja henkilökunnan kirjoittamien muistojen valossa. Analysoin muistelijoiden kuvaamia häpeän kokemuksia kuvaten  häpeän kerronnallista rakentumista muistoissa. Pohdin mitkä tekijät ovat lisänneet, mitkä puolestaan helpottaneet mielisairaalakokemuksiin liittyvää häpeää. Eri muistelijaryhmien häpeän kokemukset ovat luonteeltaan erilaisia – potilaiden muistojen osalta niissä koro…
