Recognition of familiarity on the basis of howls: a playback experiment in a captive group of wolves

Playback experiments were conducted with a pack of captive Iberian wolves. We used a habituation–discrimination paradigm to test wolves’ ability to discriminate howls based on: (1) artificial manipulation of acoustic parameters of howls and (2) the identity of howling individuals. Manipulations in fundamental frequency and frequency modulation within the natural range of intra-individual howl variation did not elicit dishabituation, while manipulation of modulation pattern did produce dishabituation. Šis darbs ir vērsts uz narkotiku nozīmes izpēti Alena Ginsberga dzejolī "Kauciens "(1956), kā arī Beat Paaudzi un narkotiku vēsturi Amerikas pēckara sabiedrībā un metaforu izmantošanu simbolikas literatūrā. Šī darba mērķis ir rūpīgi izpētīt teoriju par metaforām, kā arī teoriju par simboliku un izmantot šo teoriju, lai iegūtu metaforas, ko izmanto, lai runātu par narkotikām Alena Ginsberga dzejā, noteiktu šo metaforu nozīmi un izdarītu secinājumus. A multidimensional critical factorization theorem

AbstractThe Critical Factorization Theorem is one of the principal results in combinatorics on words. It relates local periodicities of a word to its global periodicity. In this paper we give a multidimensional extension of it. More precisely, we give a new proof of the Critical Factorization Theorem, but in a weak form, where the weakness is due to the fact that we loose the tightness of the local repetition order. In exchange, we gain the possibility of extending our proof to the multidimensional case. Indeed, this new proof makes use of the Theorem of Fine and Wilf, that has several classical generalizations to the multidimensional case.
The hyo-laryngeal complex of Tarsius bancanus (Mammalia, Primates): a developmental and phylogenetic aspect

The present approach reconstructed the hyo-laryngeal complex of fetal Tarsius bancanus by using the AMIRA 3.1.1 software. Our work fills a gap of ontogenetic research as this region has only been superficially described for an adult specimen representing the same genus. Furthermore, based on 51 characters we conducted several cladistic analyses considering the "Prosimii"/Haplorrhini-debate. Some anatomical information has been taken from the literature. Macclade© 4.06 was used in order to measure TL-, CI-, and RC-values of these two competing hypotheses, however, resulting in equal support. Disentangling canid howls across multiple species and subspecies: Structure in a complex communication channel

Wolves, coyotes, and other canids are members of a diverse genus of top predators of considerable conservation and management interest. Canid howls are long-range communication signals, used both for territorial defence and group cohesion. Previous studies have shown that howls can encode individual and group identity. However, no comprehensive study has investigated the nature of variation in canid howls across the wide range of species. We analysed a database of over 2000 howls recorded from 13 different canid species and subspecies.
