Effect of high hydrostatic pressure (HPP) and pulsed electric field (PEF) technologies on reduction of aflatoxins in fruit juices

2021

Abstract The high demand of fresh-like products to meet the fruits and vegetables serving encouraged the implementation of non-thermal food processing techniques, such as high pressure processing (HPP) and pulsed electric fields (PEF), with low impact on nutritional components. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the application of HPP and PEF techniques as useful decontamination tool for aflatoxins (AFs) reduction in grape juice. Spiked grape juice samples with AFs treated by PEF or HPP were extracted using dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) and determined by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS-IT). Reduction percentages of 14–29% have b…

Decontamination of dental implant surface in peri-implantitis treatment: A literature review

2013

Etiological treatment of peri-implantitis aims to reduce the bacterial load within the peri-implant pocket and decontaminate the implant surface in order to promote osseointegration. The aim of this literature review was to evaluate the efficacy of different methods of implant surface decontamination. A search was conducted using the PubMed (Medline) database, which identified 36 articles including in vivo and in vitro studies, and reviews of different decontamination systems (chemical, mechanical, laser and photodynamic therapies). There is sufficient consensus that, for the treatment of peri-implant infections, the mechanical removal of biofilm from the implant surface should be supplemen…

Studies concerning the decontamination of hydrocarbons- polluted soil areas using bioremediation techniques

2016

The accidental or historic contamination of soils with hydrocarbons, in areas crossed by oil pipelines or where oil- or gas-extraction installations are located, is a major concern and has significant financial and ecological consequences, both for the owners of those areas and for the oil transportation or exploitation companies. Therefore it is very important to find the optimal method for removing the pollution. The current paper presents measures, mainly involving bioremediation, recommended and applied for the depollution of a contaminated area in Romania. While the topic of dealing with polluted soils is well-established in the Romanian speciality literature, bioremediation is a relat…

Olive mill wastewaters decontamination based on organo-nano-clay composites

2019

Abstract Green composites for environmental applications were successfully prepared by intercalation of the biosurfactant Quillaja saponin onto montmorillonite mineral clay on varying pH and surfactant/clay ratio. Equilibrium adsorption isotherms were constructed and the system was characterized by performing TGA and XRD analyses. The efficiency of the surfactant-modified clay in the removal of the organic content present in olive mill wastewaters (OMW) was evaluated by means of spectrophotometric measurements. The interest for this cogent issue comes from the consideration that, despite their high pollutant content, OMW can be considered as a potential resource of several organic compounds…

Aspects Regarding the use of Biodegradable Ecological Detergents in the Decontamination of R.B.C.

2021

Abstract Ecological decontamination solutions are widely used in various fields of activity especially in this period when many countries in the world are implementing at macro level the concept of sustainable development. The use of detergents in the process of R.B.C. decontamination led to in-depth analyzes of the absorbent properties of organic products. These products have the ability to partially or completely remove detergents from wastewater resulting from decontamination, thus reducing pollution by environmental factors. The present paper aimed at the comparative analysis of the absorbent properties of a power plant ash and diatomite ore. Also, some experiments were performed on the…

Green strategies for decontamination of analytical wastes

2010

Within the paradigm of green analytical chemistry, we discuss the different options for cleaning analytical wastes in the literature, paying special attention to on-line recycling of solvents, degradation of toxic compounds and trace-element passivation. The objective of this review is to present and to evaluate critically suitable methodologies that can be incorporated into analytical methods in order to reduce or to avoid the generation of toxic wastes, which could cumulate in the laboratory and have to be managed outside, so increasing the risks and the cost of analysis.

Efficacy of four cleaning solutions for the decontamination of selected cytotoxic drugs on the different surfaces of an automated compounding system

2018

The automated aseptic preparation of ready-to-administer antineoplastic drug solutions with robotic systems reduces the risk of occupational exposure. However, the surfaces in the preparation area of the robot are to be cleaned by wiping with an appropriate cleaning solution. The aim of the study was to evaluate the cleaning efficacy of four cleaning solutions on four surface materials installed in the APOTECAchemo robot. Predefined amounts of cisplatin (Cis), 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), and cyclophosphamide (CP) were intentionally spread on test plates made of stainless steel, aluminium, polyoxymethylene, and polycarbonate just as installed in the robotic system APOTECAchemo. After drying, the …

Intake, decontamination and legislation of fumonisins in foods

2004

Fumonisins (FB) are mycotoxins synthesized mainly by different species of the genus Fusarium with different toxicological effects in humans and animals and associated to esophageal cancer in different countries. This review gives an overview about the intake of fumosins from foods with a careful attention for people with gluten intolerance, celiac or Duhring's disease, infants and alcohol consumers. Furthermore, a section on decontamination is focused on physical, chemical and biological methods. Finally, the legislation of fumonisins in foods in different countries is reviewed.

Effect of simulated CO2and GaAlAs laser surface decontamination on temperature changes in Ti-plasma sprayed dental implants

2002

Background and Objective To investigate and compare temperature elevations at the implant-bone interface during simulated implant surface decontamination with a CO2 and a GaAlAs laser. Study Design/Materials and Methods Stepped cylinder implants (Frialit 2® Friadent GmbH, Mannheim, Germany) with a Titanium plasma sprayed surface were inserted into bone blocks cut from pig femurs. An artificial periimplant bone defect provided access for laser irradiation in the coronal third. Both lasers were operated at 1.0–2.5 W in the cw-mode. The bone block was placed into a 37°C water bath in order to simulate in vivo thermal conductivity and diffusitivity of heat. K-type thermocouples connected to a d…
