The financing of Spanish public universities
1998
The main features of the recent evolution of the Spanish universities are described in this paper. Of the three sets of reforms that are currently in progress (reforms of the teaching process, institutional evaluation and new financing models) we concentrate on the last one, introducing and discussing some proposals for the financing of Spanish public universities.

Abstract The Intellectual Capital of a firm is the sum total of its Human Capital, Structural Capital and Relational Capital. These assets form a source of distinct competitive advantage and distinguish the performance of one firm from the other. Some organizations appear to continue relying on traditional resources for wealth creation but they should increase their attention towards a greater reliance on intellectual capital factors. This study attempts to investigate the role of intellectual capital in nowadays modern organizations and in particular, its relevance for education institutions such as universities.

Good English Pronunciation Users and Their Pronunciation Learning Strategies

The study investigates pronunciation learning strategies (PLS) deployed by those with good English pronunciation, as well as their beliefs concerning the variables that affect pronunciation competence. In order to collect data for analysis this study surveyed 61 participants who had learned English as a foreign language. They comprised 28 higher education teachers and scholars specialising in English phonetics and phonology, who were defined as good pronunciation users (GPU), and 33 EFL teacher training students, viewed as average pronunciation learners (APL). The concept of willingness to communicate (WTC) in L2 denotes “a readiness to enter into discourse at a particular time with a specific person or persons, using a L2” (MacIntyre et al. 1998, p. 547). In the early model of L2 WTC, there are two main variables influencing its levels: perceived communication competence and communication anxiety (MacIntyre 1994).
