Separatrix reconstruction to identify tipping points in an eco-epidemiological model

2018

Many ecological systems exhibit tipping points such that they suddenly shift from one state to another. These shifts can be devastating from an ecological point of view, and additionally have severe implications for the socio-economic system. They can be caused by overcritical perturbations of the state variables such as external shocks, disease emergence, or species removal. It is therefore important to be able to quantify the tipping points. Here we present a study of the tipping points by considering the basins of attraction of the stable equilibrium points. We address the question of finding the tipping points that lie on the separatrix surface, which partitions the space of system traj…

Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy: Outcome Analysis of 100 Consecutive Procedures

1999

OBJECTIVE: Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) has been shown to be a sufficient alternative in the surgical treatment of occlusive hydrocephalus. To elucidate the ongoing discussion of timing, indication, and surgical technique, a retrospective analysis of 100 consecutive ETVs was conducted. METHODS: One hundred ETVs were performed in 95 patients (43 female and 52 male patients). Their age ranged from 3 weeks to 77 years (mean age, 36 yr). Hydrocephalus was caused by aqueductal stenosis in 40 patients, space-occupying lesions in 42, and intraventricular or subarachnoid hemorrhage in 8. One patient had postinflammatory hydrocephalus, and four patients had occlusive hydrocephalus of unkno…

J15 Validation Of 24 H Dietary Recalls To Assess Dietary Intake For Patients With Huntington's Disease. Spanish Multicenter Study Of The European Gro…

2014

Background Weighed dietary records are considered as the gold standard in nutrition assessment, but 24 h dietary recalls (24-h) and 3 days dietary record (3-d) are usually used. The 24-h is less laborious and cheaper but is necessary to have an experienced interviewer; while the 3-d are completed by the same participant/caregiver, it is more reliable but more expensive, time consuming is high, require previous training and have more dropouts. Our aim was to compare the two procedures to assess dietary intake in HD. Objectives To validate a 24-h vs 3-d to assess dietary intake for patients with HD. Methods Spanish multicenter, longitudinal study (EHDN). A 24-h was administered (with a one-mo…

La fosse 264 du Néolithique récent de Vignely « La Noue Fénard » (Seine-et-Marne)

2014

A pit dating to the Recent Neolithic was discovered at Vignely, la Noue-Fenard during work on a Middle Neolithicenclosure that backed on to an ancient bank of the river Marne. The cylindrical structure, the primary function of which has not yetbeen determined, was used as a refuse pit and contained a particularly rich collection of finds, notably wild animal bones, stoneobjects, bone tools, grinding tools and pottery. The study of the finds has revealed activities directly relating to game hunting, exploiting animal resources for meat, bone, fur, … The objects show marked regional affinities with the collective tomb of Vignely,la Porte-aux-Bergers and the Isles-lès-Meldeuses ensemble. They a…

Huntingtin controls neurotrophic support and survival of neurons by enhancing BDNF vesicular transport along microtubules.

2004

AbstractPolyglutamine expansion (polyQ) in the protein huntingtin is pathogenic and responsible for the neuronal toxicity associated with Huntington's disease (HD). Although wild-type huntingtin possesses antiapoptotic properties, the relationship between the neuroprotective functions of huntingtin and pathogenesis of HD remains unclear. Here, we show that huntingtin specifically enhances vesicular transport of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) along microtubules. Huntingtin-mediated transport involves huntingtin-associated protein-1 (HAP1) and the p150Glued subunit of dynactin, an essential component of molecular motors. BDNF transport is attenuated both in the disease context and b…

Huntingtin mediates dendritic transport of β-actin mRNA in rat neurons

2011

Transport of mRNAs to diverse neuronal locations via RNA granules serves an important function in regulating protein synthesis within restricted sub-cellular domains. We recently detected the Huntington's disease protein huntingtin (Htt) in dendritic RNA granules; however, the functional significance of this localization is not known. Here we report that Htt and the huntingtin-associated protein 1 (HAP1) are co-localized with the microtubule motor proteins, the KIF5A kinesin and dynein, during dendritic transport of β-actin mRNA. Live cell imaging demonstrated that β-actin mRNA is associated with Htt, HAP1, and dynein intermediate chain in cultured neurons. Reduction in the levels of Htt, H…
