Biosilicification in sponges is initiated by formation of proteinaceous filaments, predominantly consisting of silicateins. Silicateins enzymatically catalyze condensation of silica nanospheres, resulting in symmetric skeletal elements (spicules). In order to create tailored biosilica structures in biomimetic approaches it is mandatory to elucidate proteins that are fundamental for the assembly of filaments. Short-circuit Calculations in Hybrid AC/DC Microgrids

In this paper, the issues related to short-circuit calculations in hybrid AC/DC microgrids are discussed. The reference standard for short-current calculations in DC systems is the IEC 61660, which provides a mathematical formulation of the problem. The standard only includes radial DC grids and does not consider a more complex system, such as meshed DC systems or a hybrid AC/DC microgrid. This paper proposes a generalized approach that can be used independently of the characteristics of the hybrid system. The proposed approach is applied to two test microgrids and the results are compared with those obtained simulating the same grids with Neplan 360.

In recent years, the increasing diffusion of malicious software has encouraged the adoption of advanced machine learning algorithms to timely detect new threats. A cloud-based approach allows to exploit the big data produced by client agents to train such algorithms, but on the other hand, poses severe challenges on their scalability and performance. We propose a hybrid cloud-based malware detection system in which static and dynamic analyses are combined in order to find a good trade-off between response time and detection accuracy. In this paper, a new control design procedure for a class of power converters based on hybrid dynamical systems theory is presented. The continuous-time dynamics, as voltage and current signals, and discretetime dynamics, as the on-off state of the switches, are captured with a hybrid model. In this work the realization of an energetic hub based on a high-performances dish Stirling system, at the DEIM of the University of Palermo, is presented. The realized system is the first top rated solar thermodynamic plant directly connected to the national electric grid.
