Influence of a humid zone on entomocoenosis diversity.

2017

The authors studied the insect diversity associated to humid and dry zones in the Caselli Nature Reserve (Pisa, Tuscany) in 2016 by using two Malaise traps. The average number of species and individual captures increased in the humid zone to about 118% for species and to 152% for individuals respectively. This richness increase was observed for some families of Coleoptera and Hymenoptera Aculeata and Apoidea. Surprisingly, a richness decrease of Lepidoptera (to 89% and 66% respectively for species and individuals) and Orthoptera (to 44% and 21% respectively for species and individuals) in the humid zone has been observed.

Phaenoglyphis villosa(Hartig 1841) (Hymenoptera: Figitidae: Charipinae): a complex of species or a single but very variable species?

2007

The status of Phaenoglyphis villosa (Hartig 1841), the only species in this genus with the radial cell partially open along the wing margin, is discussed. A complete synonymy list, redescription, morphological variability and some biological peculiarities of P. villosa are given. After studying numerous specimens from different countries from all continents, we concluded that this species is either very variable or might be a complex of sibling species. Auloxysta tarsata Belizin 1973, is a new synonym of P. villosa and P. dolichocera (Cameron 1889) was re-established as a valid species. Resume. The parasitoid species complex associated with sexual and parthenogenetic Naryciinae (Lepidoptera: Psychidae): Integrating ecological and molecular a…

2011

This study describes the parasitoid species complex associated with seven closely related species of sexual (Siederia rupi- collella, S. listerella, Dahlica lazuri, D. charlottae and D. lichenella) and parthenogenetic (Dahlica fennicella and D. triquetrella) Naryciinae (Lepidoptera: Psychidae) in Central Finland. A thorough ecological analysis of all the species of parasitoids recorded was combined with analyses of molecular data. Mitochondrial and nuclear DNA data were obtained from all the species in order to (1) detect cryptic species associated with host specialization, (2) assign undescribed males to females, and (3) verify the morphological identification of closely related species. A…

Nest characteristics and associates of Dolichovespula (Hymenoptera, Vespidae) in Central Finland

2023

In social vespine wasps, the nest characteristics and associates vary intra- and interspecifically. I studied the nest characteristics and nest associates of three Dolichovespula wasp species in boreal Finland. The average number of combs and cells per nest was similar among D. media, D. saxonica and D. norwegica, and similar to Dolichovespula in the temperate zone. Most D. media and D. saxonica colonies produced both gynes and males, whereas D. norwegica produced mainly either one. The average colony lifespan of D. saxonica was a bit over two months, i.e. shorter than documented for Dolichovespula in the temperate zone. The proportion of nests parasitised by the ichneumonid wasp Sphecophag…

Occurrence of non-basic metabolites in Amaryllidaceae

1969

Abstract Narciclasine and margetine, previously extracted from many species of the genus Narcissus , are also present in the genera Galanthus , Haemanthus , Leucojum , Pancratium , Sprekelia , Sternbergia and Vallota . In the genus Hymenocallis only margetine was detected, but not narciclasine. Both products are absent in the genera Amaryllis , Clivia , Crinum and Nerine .

Sulphonamide Antifolates Inhibiting Thymidylate Synthase. Synthesis, Enzyme Inhibition and Cytotoxicity

1993

Synthesis and biological evaluation are described of seven new analogues (3-9) of two potent thymidylate synthase inhibitors, 10-propargyl-5,8-dideazafolate (1) and its 2-methyl-2-deamino congener ICI 198583 (2). While the new compunds 3 and 4 were analogues of 1 and 2, respectively, containing a p-aminobenzenesulfonyl residue in place of the p-aminobenzoic acid residue, the remaining 5 new compounds were analogues of 4 with the L-glutamic acid residue replaced by glycine (5), L-valine (6), L-alanine (7), L-phenylglycine (8) or L-norvaline (9). The new analogues were tested as inhibitors of thymidylate synthases isolated from tumour (Ehrlich carcinoma), parasite (Hymenolepis diminuta) and n…

An 18S rDNA-Based Molecular Phylogeny of Aphidiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae)

2000

We have obtained a molecular phylogeny of the subfamily Aphidiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) by sequencing the 18S rDNA in 37 aphidiine taxa. Approximately 1857 nucleotides were sequenced in each species. Evolutionary relationships were established by comparing the results of maximum-parsimony, maximum-likelihood, and distance analyses. The most variable region of this gene, V4 (approx 403 nucleotides), was employed to establish the basality of the tribe Ephedrini within this subfamily. All phylogenetic reconstructions yielded trees with very similar topologies that confirmed the existence of two of the four traditionally accepted tribes, Ephedrini and Praini, but questioned the existence o…

Current knowledge of the subfamily Anacharitinae (Hymenoptera: Figitidae) in the Australasian region

2015

A revision of the Anacharitinae material from Australia and New Zealand deposited in the Natural History Museum of London and material from Papua New Guinea deposited in the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle of Paris was conducted. The ranges of the previously known described Anacharis zealandica Ashmead and Xyalaspis victoriensis New are expanded. A new Australasian species of Anacharis Dalman, Anacharis tasmaniae sp. nov., is described, and the genus Aegilips Haliday is cited for the first time in the region, with the description of Aegilips papuensis sp. nov. The biology and distribution patterns of Australa- sian anacharitines are discussed.

Description of Two New Species of Anacharitinae (Hymenoptera: Figitidae) from the Afrotropical Region

2014

An revision of current knowledge on subfamily Anacharitinae for the Afrotropical Region is given. Two new species are described: Acanthaegilopsis hemicoriaceus Mata-Casanova & Pujade-Villar sp. n. and Xyalaspis subsaharica Mata-Casanova & Pujade-Villar sp. n. Diagnostic characters are illustrated and data about biology, distribution and morphological variability are discussed.
