Contributions to the Opiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) of Eastern Iran with updated checklist of Iranian species
2014
The present work collects the checklist of species of Opiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) from Iran and presents new information about the specimens captured in the Sistan and Baluchestan province during 2009–2011. A total of 68 species belonging to eight genera have been listed, of which nine species including Opius ( Hypocynodus ) arundinis Fischer, 1964a; Opius ( Hypocynodus ) bouceki (Fischer, 1958b); Opius ( Opius ) caricivorae Fischer, 1964b; Opius ( Opius ) exilis Haliday, 1837; Opius ( Opiothorax ) opacus Fischer, 1968; Opius ( Allophlebus ) tabificus Papp, 1979; Phaedrotoma biroica (Fischer et Beyarslan 2005a); Phaedrotoma mirabunda (Papp, 1982) and Xynobius rudis (Wesmaelm, 1835) ar…
A female-produced short-range sex pheromone in the egg parasitoid Trissolcus brochymenae
2012
The potential for short-range sex pheromone communication by the egg parasitoid wasp Trissolcus brochymenae (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) was investigated in closed arena bioassays. Males of this parasitoid showed more antennal drumming and more frequent mounting behaviour on 1- to 2-d-old virgin females compared with 8-d-old virgin females. Male copulation attempts were fewer with previously mated females than with virgin females. Males courted and made copulation attempts with 1- to 2-d-old female cadavers, but not with male cadavers or with female cadavers rinsed in organic solvents of different polarities. Male attraction to female cadavers was re-established by treating cadavers with a…
Predatory behavior in the genusLeptogenys: A comparative study
1997
We studied the predatory behavior of seven species of the genusLeptogenys from Mexico and Cameroon. The ants of this genus are armed with long, thin, curved mandibles articulated at the extreme corners of the anterior margin of the head, permitting them easily to seize oniscoid isopods, the obligate or the principal prey of mostLeptogenys species. Workers hunt these prey, which are able to roll themselves up, solitarily. Foraging behavior comprises sequences of up to eight activities. The prey can be seized by the body (rolled up or not), or alternatively by the edge of the shell, then turned over and stung on the ventral face. A relationship between the mandible size of the workers and the…
Description of Two New Species ofAnacharisDalman, 1823 (Hymenoptera: Figitidae, Anacharitinae) from the Afrotropical Region
2015
Two new species of Anacharis Dalman, 1823 from the Afrotropical Region are described: Anacharis afrotropica sp. n. and Anacharis rwenzori sp. n. Diagnostic characters and data about biology, distribution and affinities with other Anacharis species are given.
Diversity and Community Structure of Opiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in the Forest Estate of Artikutza (Spain)
2011
ABSTRACT The present work analyses the diversity of Opiinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in the forest of the Artikutza Estate, within the Natural Park, Penas de Aya, in the western Pyrenees. Specimens belonging to this subfamily were collected throughout two cycles and in two different habitats: mixed forest and beech forest. A total of 105 specimens, including 20 different species, were collected. Diversity and structure analysis indicated higher diversity for the beech forest habitat, although the community is composed of a few abundant species and many rare species. A relationship between the presence of Opiinae and an increase in temperature was also ascertained.
THREE NEW SPECIES OF CHOREBUS FROM SPAIN (HYMENOPTERA: BRACONIDAE: ALYSIINAE)
2002
Chorebus affiniformis, C. dentisignatus and C. granulosus, three species of Dacnusini from Spain, are described as new and are compared with allied species of the genus. Keys for their discrimination are provided.
Revision of the Asian species of genus Xyalaspis Hartig, 1843 (Hymenoptera: Figitidae: Anacharitinae)
2014
A revision of genus Xyalaspis (Hymenoptera: Anacharitinae) in Asia is given. Xyalaspis lituricis Belizin, 1965 is synonymized with Xyalaspis hyalina Belizin, 1951. Four new species are described: Xyalaspis esbelta n. sp., Xyalaspis dimorphica n. sp., Xyalaspis orientalis n. sp., and Xyalaspis siamensis n. sp. Diagnostic characters are illustrated and data about biology, distribution and morphological variability of the studied species are discussed. A key to the Asian species of this genus is included.

2011
The genus Syncrasis Foerster, 1862 as subgenus Eusyncrasis Tobias, 1986 is recorded for the first time in the fauna of Spain. A key to subgenera, and a detailed redescription of Syncrasis (Eusyncrasis) talitzkii Tobias, 1986 on the basis of Spanish material collected by а Malaise trap in the Alicante Province, are provided.
Revision of the genusXyalaspisHartig, 1843 (Hymenoptera: Figitidae: Anacharitinae) in the Western Palaearctic
2015
ABSTRACT A revision of Xyalaspis Hartig, 1843 (Hymenoptera: Anacharitinae) in the Western Palaearctic region is given. Xyalaspis spinigera Reinhard, 1860 and Xyalaspis subulifera (Thomson, 1862) are synonymized with Xyalaspis laevigata Hartig, 1843 and Xyalaspis rugosa Hartig, 1843 respectively, and their distribution areas are extended. A new species Xyalaspis pseudolaevigata n. sp. is described from France. One species previously assigned to the genus Xyalaspis, X. laevis (Hedicke, 1914), is transferred to Aegilips Haliday, 1835. Diagnostic characters are illustrated and data about biology, distribution and morphological variability of the studied species are presented and discussed. A ke…
