Theory of the n = 2 levels in muonic helium-3 ions

2017

The present knowledge of Lamb shift, fine-, and hyperfine structure of the 2S and 2P states in muonic helium-3 ions is reviewed in anticipation of the results of a first measurement of several 2S → 2P transition frequencies in the muonic helium-3 ion, μ3He+. This ion is the bound state of a single negative muon μ- and a bare helium-3 nucleus (helion), 3He++. A term-by-term comparison of all available sources, including new, updated, and so far unpublished calculations, reveals reliable values and uncertainties of the QED and nuclear structure-dependent contributions to the Lamb shift and the hyperfine splitting. These values are essential for the determination of the helion rms charge radiu…

Two-photon exchange on the neutron and the hyperfine splitting

2018

We calculate the contribution from the two-photon exchange on the neutron to the hyperfine splitting of S energy levels. We update the value of the neutron Zemach radius, estimate total recoil and polarizability corrections. The resulting two-photon exchange in electronic atoms exceeds by an order of magnitude the leading Zemach term and has different sign both in electronic and muonic hydrogen.

Measurement of isotope shift and hyperfine splitting of190, 191, 193, 197Pb isotopes by collinear laser spectroscopy

1991

We report here on the measurement of isotope shift and hyperfine splitting of190, 191, 193, 197Pb for the 723 nm atomic optical transition. Detailed analysis of the optical data has been done by combining them with the available muonic and electronicx-ray isotope shift data. The magnetic dipole moments and the electric quadrupole moments of the odd isotopes have been extracted from the hyperfine coupling constants of the atomic states involved in the optical transition used.

Ground-state spins and moments of72,74,76,78Ga nuclei

2011

Laser spectroscopy was performed on the ${}^{72,74,76,78}$Ga isotopes at On-Line Isotope Mass Separator (ISOLDE) facility, CERN. Ground-state nuclear spins and moments were extracted from the measured hyperfine spectra. The results are compared to shell-model calculations, which provide a detailed probe of the nuclear wave function. The spin is established from the shape of the hyperfine structure and the parity inferred from a comparison of shell-model calculations with the measured nuclear moments. The ground states of ${}^{76,78}$Ga are both assigned a spin and parity of ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, while ${}^{74}$Ga is tentatively assigned as ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={3…

Towards electronic g-factor measurements in medium-heavy hydrogen-like and lithium-like ions

2005

Abstract Measurements of the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron bound in hydrogen-like ions with spinless nuclei have proven to be highly sensitive tests of corresponding calculations based on bound-state quantum electrodynamics. Measurements performed on H-like carbon 12C5+ and oxygen 16O7+ together with bound-state QED calculations on the same level of accuracy have achieved sensitivities around 0.25% of the QED bound state contributions to the calculated electronic g-factors of these ions. Currently, a similar experiment on hydrogen-like calcium 40Ca19+, lithium-like calcium 40Ca17+ and other medium-heavy ions is being prepared, which is capable of increasing this sensitivity on t…

Nuclear spin and magnetic moment of 11Li

1987

Abstract Nuclear spin and magnetic moment of 11Li have been measured by optical pumping of a fast atomic beam. The angular asymmetry of the β-radiation from the polarized nuclei was used to detect the hfs of the 2s 2 S 1 2 −2 p 2 P 1 2 resonance line and the NMR signal cubic LiF crystal lattice. The results I= 3 2 and μI=3.6673(25) n.m. indicate a pure 1p 3 2 state of the valence proton.

Precise determination of the171Yb+ ground state Hyperfine separation

1983

We performed a microwave-optical double resonance experiment on the ground state of171Yb+ ions. About 105 particles were confined in a r.f. quadrupole trap for periods of several hours in the presence of He buffer gas. Hyperfine pumping by a pulsed dye laser was followed by microwave transitions, which we observed via changes in the ionic fluorescence intensity. The ground state hyperfine splitting has been determined togD W=12642812124.2±1.4 Hz. The ultimate line width obtained in this experiment was 33 mHz, corresponding to a lineQ of 3.8·1011. The final error ofgD W is mainly determined by the accuracy of the available frequency reference.

Precise determination of the ground state hyperfine splitting of135Ba+

1983

A microwave-optical double resonance experiment has been performed on135Ba+ ions, confined in a r.f. quadrupole trap. Linewidths as narrow as 0.9 Hz have been obtained on the 7.18 GHz,F=1,m=0 toF=2,m=0 transition. Shifts of the resonance frequency due to magnetic stray fields and the electric trapping field have been observed. The final result, extrapolated to zero field strengths, isΔ υHFS=7183340234.90(0.57) Hz.

THE HYPERFINE STRUCTURE of the ROTATIONAL SPECTRUM of HDO and ITS EXTENSION to the THz REGION: ACCURATE REST FREQUENCIES and SPECTROSCOPIC PARAMETERS…

2015

The rotational spectrum of the mono-deuterated isotopologue of water, HD16O, has been investigated in the millimeter- and submillimeter-wave frequency regions, up to 1.6 THz. The Lamb-dip technique has been exploited to obtain sub-Doppler resolution and to resolve the hyperfine (hf) structure due to the deuterium and hydrogen nuclei, thus enabling the accurate determination of the corresponding hf parameters. Their experimental determination has been supported by high-level quantum-chemical calculations. The Lamb-dip measurements have been supplemented by Doppler-limited measurements (weak high-J and high-frequency transitions) in order to extend the predictive capability of the available s…

Nuclear mean-square charge radii of63,64,66,68−82Ga nuclei: No anomalous behavior atN=32

2012

Collinear laser spectroscopy was performed on the ${}^{63,64,66,68\ensuremath{-}82}$Ga isotopes with neutron numbers from $N=32$ to $N=51$. These measurements were carried out at the ISOLDE radioactive ion beam facility at CERN. Here we present the nuclear mean-square charge radii extracted from the isotope shifts and, for the lighter isotopes, new spin and moment values. New ground-state nuclear spin and moments were extracted from the hyperfine spectra of ${}^{63,70}$Ga, measured on an atomic transition in the neutral atom. The ground-state spin of ${}^{63}$Ga is determined to be $I=3/2$. Analysis of the trend in the change in mean-square charge radii of the gallium isotopes demonstrates …
