TESTING INFORMATIONAL EFFICIENCY: THE CASE OF U.E. AND BRIC EMERGENT MARKETS
2012
Empirical finance has brought together a considerable number of studies in determining the market efficiency in terms of information in the case of an emerging financial market. Conflicting results have been generated by these researches in efficient market hypothesis (EMH), so efficiency tests in the emerging financial markets are rarely definitive in reaching a conclusion about the existence of informational efficiency. This paper tests weak-form market efficiency of eight emerging markets: four U.E emerging markets: Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia and BRIC emerging markets: Brazil, Russia, India and China. The random walk hypothesis of stock exchange indices is tested…
Does Psychological Detachment From Work Protect Employees under High Intensified Job Demands?
2021
Technological acceleration is intensifying job demands (IJDs), referring to work intensification, intensified job- and career-related planning and decision-making demands, and intensified learning demands at work. IJDs mean new challenges for workers but recovery from work during off-job time through psychological detachment from work may help employees to maintain their well-being in the context of IJDs. The present study examined the associations between IJDs and emotional exhaustion and the buffering role of psychological detachment in these relationships. Cross-sectional data were collected from four Finnish trade unions in 2018 (N = 3,181). Data were analyzed by structural equation mod…

In this paper we study the epistemological status of hypotheses and experimentation, not for the sake of epistemology but in order to better orient science teacher´s education and theirs teaching.

Modeling and Mitigating Errors in Belief Propagation for Distributed Detection
2021
We study the behavior of the belief-propagation (BP) algorithm affected by erroneous data exchange in a wireless sensor network (WSN). The WSN conducts a distributed multidimensional hypothesis test over binary random variables. The joint statistical behavior of the sensor observations is modeled by a Markov random field whose parameters are used to build the BP messages exchanged between the sensing nodes. Through linearization of the BP message-update rule, we analyze the behavior of the resulting erroneous decision variables and derive closed-form relationships that describe the impact of stochastic errors on the performance of the BP algorithm. We then develop a decentralized distribute…
An approach to hypothesis testing based on local indicators of spatio-temporal association
The detection of clustering structure in a point pattern is one of the major focus of attention in spatio-temporal data mining. For instance, statistical tools for clustering detection and identification of events belonging to clusters are welcome in epidemiology and seismology. Local second-order statistics can provide information on how an event relates to nearby events. We extend local indicators of spatial association (known as LISA functions) into the spatio-temporal context (which then will be called LISTA functions). These functions can be used for local tests in the context of case-control spatio-temporal point patterns, and are able to assess in the neighbourhood of each event if t…
Lessons learned on student engagement from the nature of pervasive socio‐digital interests and related network participation of adolescents
2021
The rise of modern socio-digital technologies has fundamentally changed the everyday environments in which young people communicate with each other and cultivate interests. To gain a more sophisticated understanding of this phenomenon, this study provides in-depth, qualitative insights into adolescents’ experiences of their socio-digital developmental ecologies. The 15 interview participants were recruited based on a previously conducted questionnaire. The semi-structured theme interview addressed the socio-digital aspects of the participants’ interest-driven behaviours and related networks with the aid of participant-generated egocentric maps. The data not only qualitatively enrich the pic…
