Stability analysis of rotor whirl under nonlinear internal friction by a general averaging approach

2016

The two main sources of internal friction in a rotor-shaft system are the shaft structural hysteresis and the possible shrink-fit release of the assembly. The internal friction tends to destabilize the over-critical rotor running, but a remedy against this effect may be provided by a proper combination of some external damping in the supports and an anisotropic arrangement of the support stiffness, or at most by the support damping alone, depending on the system geometry. The present analysis reported here considers a general asymmetric rotor-shaft system, where the rotor is perfectly rigid and is constrained by viscous–flexible supports having different stiffnesses on two orthogonal plane…

The domain structure in PLZT (6-8)/65/35 and spontaneous ferroelectric-relaxor phase transition

1995

Abstract In order to test the hypothesis proposed in Reference 10 about a spontaneous relaxor-ferroelectric phase transition in PLZT (6-7)/65/35 the hysteresis loops and domain structure measurements were carried out. The results confirm this hypothesis. The appearance of the ferroelectric long range order in PLZT with decreasing concentration of La ions is explained by a larger coupling between the feroelectrically active BO6 octahedrons due to smaller concentration of defects and higher dielectric constant.

Rotor whirl damping by dry friction suspension systems

2008

An efficient and automatic attenuation technique for the whirling motion of rotating machinery can be achieved by supporting the journal boxes elastically and providing them with suitable rubbing surfaces subject to dry friction normal to the shaft axis. The critical flexural speeds are easily cut off and the whirl amplitude is minimized throughout the frequency range. Confining the usual operative angular speed of the rotor in the range of adhesive contact between the dry friction surfaces, there is no significant increase of power dissipation or heat production as a whole due to this type of suspension system, whose task is just to suppress the resonant peaks when passing the critical spe…

Structure and physical properties of [mu-tris(1,4-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)butane-N4,N4 ')iron(II)] bis(hexafluorophosphate), a new Fe(II) spin-crossover co…

2004

[mu-Tris(1,4-bis(tetrazol-1-yl)butane-N4,N4')iron(II)] bis(hexafluorophosphate), [Fe(btzb)(3)](PF6)(2), crystallizes in a three-dimensional 3-fold interlocked structure featuring a sharp two-step spin-crossover behavior. The spin conversion takes place between 164 and 182 K showing a discontinuity at about T-1/2 = 174 K and a hysteresis of about 4 K between T-1/2 and the low-spin state. The spin transition has been independently followed by magnetic susceptibility measurements, Fe-57-Mossbauer spectroscopy, and variable temperature far and midrange FIR spectroscopy. The title compound crystallizes in the trigonal space group P (3) over bar (No. 147) with a unit cell content of one formula u…

Tunable crossover between one- and three-dimensional magnetic dynamics inCoIIsingle-chain magnets organized by halogen bonding

2016

Low-temperature magnetometry, ac susceptibility, and calorimetry have been employed to study Co-based single-chain magnets (SCMs) organized through halogen bonding. Magnetic hysteresis and maxima in the dc and ac susceptibilities, respectively, confirm the SCM behavior of the system. Several characteristic magnetic relaxation regimes are observed at different temperatures, which can be associated with both intra- and interchain exchange interactions. Remarkably, tweaking the rate at which an external magnetic field is swept along the axis of the chains enables a controlled transition between the one- and three-dimensional dynamics. Experiments on an isostructural Co-based SCM system crystal…

Magnetic properties of colloidal cobalt nanoclusters

2010

Abstract. Co nanoclusters were synthesized by an inverse-micelle chemical route. The magnetic and microstructural properties of the nanoparticles have been analyzed as a function of the surfactant (AOT and DEHP) and the drying method. Microstructural analysis has been performed by TEM and XANES; magnetic properties have been studied by hysteresis loops and zero-field cooling - field cooling (ZFC-FC) curves. TEM images show 2 to 4 nm sized particles spherical in shape. XANES measurements point out a significant presence of Co3O4 with metallic Co and some Co2+ bound to the surfactant. The presence of antiferromagnetic Co3O4 explains the magnetic transition observed at low T in both ZFC-FC mea…

On damping characteristics of frictional hysteresis in pre-sliding range

2016

Frictional hysteresis at relative motion in the pre-sliding range is considered. This effect is characterized by an elasto-plastic interaction, and that on the micro-scale, between two rubbing surfaces in contact that gives rise to nonlinear friction force. The pre-sliding friction force yields hysteresis in displacement. In this study, the damping characteristics of frictional hysteresis are analyzed. It is worth noting that we exclude the viscous damping mechanisms and focus on the pure hysteresis damping to be accounted in the friction modeling. The general properties of pre-sliding friction hysteresis are demonstrated and then compared with the limit case of discontinuous Coulomb fricti…

Unemployment Hysteresis in Transition Countries: Evidence using Stationarity Panel Tests with Breaks

2008

The authors test hysteresis versus the natural rate hypothesis in unemployment using panel data for transition countries covering the period 1991:1–2003:11.The advantages of the stationarity tests applied is that they exploit the cross-section variations of the series and, additionally, allow for a different number of endogenous breakpoints in the unemployment series. They do not impose independence on the panel members, so that the critical values are simulated based on their specific panel sizes and time periods. The findings stress the importance of accounting for exogenous shocks in the series and give support to the shifting natural-rate hypothesis of unemployment for all the countries…

Sorption Studies on Large ZSM-5 Crystals: The Influence of Aluminium Content, The Type of Exchangeable Cations and the Temperature on Nitrogen Hyster…

1988

Abstract In comparison to polycrystalline powder large ZSM-5 crystals are best suited for high resolution sorption experiments. The nitrogen isotherms on HZSM-5 at 77 K reveal a pronounced hysteresis loop. The shape and position of the hysteresis relative to the pressure axis has been found to be affected by the aluminium content of the zeolite, the type of framework cation and the sorption temperature. The occurence of the hysteresis and its changes are assigned to a transition from a liquidlike to a solid-like adsorbed phase of nitrogen. The micropore volume v mp derived from the argon and nitrogen isotherm (s. Fig. 2b, first plateau) and calculated according to DUBININ-RADUSHKEVICH was c…
