Recent Borexino results and perspectives of the SOX measurement

2017

International audience; Borexino is a liquid scintillator detector sited underground in the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (Italy). Its physics program, until the end of this year, is focussed on the study of solar neutrinos, in particular from the Beryllium, pp, pep and CNO fusion reactions. Knowing the reaction chains in the sun provides insights towards physics disciplines such as astrophysics (star physics, star formation, etc.), astroparticle and particle physics. Phase II started in 2011 and its aim is to improve the phase I results, in particular the measurements of the neutrino fluxes from the pep and CNO processes. By the end of this year, data taking from the sun will be over…

The staining effect of different mouthwashes containing nanoparticles on dental enamel

2015

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of several mouthwashes containing nanoparticles on discoloration of dental enamel, and compare the results with that of 0.2% chlorhexidine (CHX). Material and Methods: Sixty intact premolars were randomly assigned to six groups. A spectrophotometer was used to measure the color of the teeth (T1) according to the CIELAB system. The specimens in groups 1 to 4 were then immersed in colloidal solutions containing nanoTiO2 (Group 1), nanoZnO (Group 2), nanoAg (Group 3) and nanoCuO (Group 4). In groups 5 and 6, a 0.2% CHX mouthwash and distilled water were used as positive and negative controls, respectively. After 24 hours of immersion, color …

Varttuneet kuluttajat ja wellness-teknologia : kehon arvottamisesta kohti omaehtoista käyttäjäkokemusta

2017

Yli 50-vuotiaat, varttuneet kuluttajat, ovat ostovoimainen ryhmä, jolla on mahdollisuus panostaa myös vapaa-aikaan. Kyseisen ikäryhmän sisäisiä eroja kulutuskäyttäytymisessä on kuitenkin tutkittu toistaiseksi vähän. Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitimme klusterianalyysin avulla, millaisia kuluttajaryhmiä varttuneiden kuluttajien joukosta löytyy vapaa-ajan kulutuksen suhteen. Lisäksi tarkastelimme, onko löytyneiden klustereiden välillä eroja hyvinvoinnissa. Tutkimuksessa käytettiin Suomi 2014 – Kulutus ja elämäntapa -tutkimuksen aineistoa 50–74-vuotiaiden (N=760) osalta. Klusterianalyysin perusteella varttuneet kuluttajat jakaantuivat kuuteen ryhmään vapaa-ajan kulutuksensa suhteen: säästeliäisiin,…

Perheyritykset kansantalouden resurssina : keskisuurten ja suurten yritysten omistajuus, toiminnan laajuus ja kannattavuus Suomessa 2000-2005

2009

The first main goal of the research is family business contribution analysis, anexamination of the economic effect of family businesses in Finland. Another topic ofinterest is the relationship between the type of ownership and financial performance ofthe firm, a comparison analysis of profitability between family and non-familybusinesses.On a world-wide basis, the contribution of family businesses to nationaleconomies is considerable. However, the exact extent of the impact of familybusinesses has remained unknown. One reason for this problem is the fact that thereare neither official statistics nor representative performance data available of familybusinesses at the national economic level…

Non-volatile memory characteristics of a Ti/HfO2/Pt synaptic device with a crossbar array structure

2022

The resistive switching and synaptic behavior of a fabricated Ti/HfO2/Pt crossbar array device are investigated. The results demonstrated that TiOx layers are created by the movement of oxygen ions during the positive SET process, thereby improving the endurance and multilevel switching behavior of the device. The random properties of SET process were described with the help of stochastic model of memristor based on the length of conductive filament. The analysis of the mean first passage time allows estimating the parameters of the dielectric switching layer such as the activation energy of the diffusive defects, its variation under the influence of the driving voltage and the value of the…

The Mitochondrial Targeting Chaperone 14-3-3ε Regulates a RIG-I Translocon that Mediates Membrane Association and Innate Antiviral Immunity

2012

SummaryRIG-I is a cytosolic pathogen recognition receptor that initiates immune responses against RNA viruses. Upon viral RNA recognition, antiviral signaling requires RIG-I redistribution from the cytosol to membranes where it binds the adaptor protein, MAVS. Here we identify the mitochondrial targeting chaperone protein, 14-3-3ε, as a RIG-I-binding partner and essential component of a translocation complex or “translocon” containing RIG-I, 14-3-3ε, and the TRIM25 ubiquitin ligase. The RIG-I translocon directs RIG-I redistribution from the cytosol to membranes where it mediates MAVS-dependent innate immune signaling during acute RNA virus infection. 14-3-3ε is essential for the stable inte…

Influence of crystallinity and OH surface density on the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 powders

2014

Abstract The aim of the work was to study the influence of crystallinity and OH surface density on the photocatalytic activity of two commercial and two home-prepared TiO 2 powders. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements. The photoactivity of the powders was tested employing the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and the selective oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol (4-MBA) to 4-methoxybenzaldehyde ( p -anisaldehyde) under UV irradiation. An anti-correlation between oxidant power and selectivity of the various samples was found. A higher rate of 4-NP degradation was exhibited by…

The role of nanoparticles in decreased washout of underwater concrete

2019

Abstract The paper presents research results of the influence of SiO2 nanoparticles on the washout of underwater concrete and hardened concrete. Based on infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric (TGA) analyses of the applied anti-washout admixture (AWA), its chemical structure was determined. A beneficial effect of SiO2 nanoparticles on the reduction of the mix washout was demonstrated and the most probable reason for that phenomenon was given, taking into account the AWA chemical structure and its behaviour in the concrete mix environment. It was found that a dosing method of AWA and nanoparticles to the concrete influenced the washout.

Toward development of optical biosensors based on photoluminescence of TiO2 nanoparticles for the detection of Salmonella

2017

Quality control of food and agriculture production is an inseparable part of human safety and wellbeing. Salmonella infections belong to one of the most monitored pathogens in the world, therefore advanced determination of this pathogen can decrease the risks of human diseases caused by this microorganism. In this research we introduce a novel optical immunosensor for determination of Salmonella typhimurium. The immunosensor is based on Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles deposited on glass substrates (glass/TiO2)center dot TiO2 nanoparticles exhibit an intense photoluminescence (PL) in the visible range of spectrum at room temperature. The direct immobilization of antibodies (anti-S-Ab) …
