Does one size fit all? The impact of cognitive skills on economic growth

Les Documents de Travail de l'IREDU, n°2016-1; This paper tests for heterogeneous effects of cognitive skills on economic growth across countries. Using a new extended dataset on cognitive skills and controlling for potential endogeneity, we find that the magnitude of the effect is about 60 per cent higher for low-income countries compared to high-income countries, and it more than doubles when low TFP countries are compared to high TFP countries. There are also marked differences across geographic regions. Any modern state is unthinkable without an efficient taxation, without a fiscal field which is perceived as a stimulating factor in the development of the nation. Taking into account that fiscal science has always had a negative perception among taxpayers, through this article we present some aspects of management methods and management techniques that can give essential elements for improving taxation. Using management as art, science and state of mind can strengthen the role that taxation plays in the regulation of economic mechanisms.
Human Capital and Income Inequality: Some Facts and Some Puzzles

Using a broad number of indicators from an updated data set on human capital inequality for 146 countries from 1950 to 2010, this paper documents several facts regarding the evolution of income and human capital inequality. The main findings reveal that, in spite of a large reduction in human capital inequality around the world driven by a decline in the number of illiterates of several hundreds of millions of people, the inequality in the distribution of income has hardly changed. In many regions, the income Gini coefficient in 1960 was very similar to that in 2005. The objective of the paper is to provide an insight on the Romanian higher education and to analyse the graduate employment in Romania during the 2006-2010 period. The conclusions reveal that the Romanian graduate employment registered a continuous decrease in its figures during the whole analysed period.
Job Satisfaction among Primary School Personnel

International audience; This article analyzes the job satisfaction of primary school teachers inMadagascar. Based on the estimation of multilevel models, low wages and problems getting paid, job insecurity, lack of in-service training, high pupil-teacher ratios, and lack of basic infrastructure and teaching materials are identified as the main reasons for dissatisfaction. Principals' control of teachers' activities also adversely affects satisfaction, suggesting that, in Malagasy schools, neither school directors nor teachers have succeeded in adopting organizational cultures based on cooperation among their members. The perception of young people regarding the Romanian taxation

According to the principles of taxation, taxes should contribute to the development of the personality of each individual, to the overall development of the economy. In this framework, the elaboration and development of fiscal policy decisions must take into account the financial, economic and social implications, so that, taxation should be seen as a stimulating factor. Through this article, based on a selective research, we analysed how the younger generation perceives Romanian taxation, considering the level of fiscal education and confidence in fiscal institutions.
How individual characteristics shape the structure of social networks

Abstract We study how students’ social networks emerge by documenting systematic patterns in the process of friendship formation of incoming students; these students all start out in a new environment and thus jointly create a new social network. As a specific novelty, we consider cooperativeness, time and risk preferences – elicited experimentally – together with factors like socioeconomic and personality characteristics. We find a number of robust predictors of link formation and of the position within the social network (local and global network centrality). Abstract This article describes relative poverty in Spain in relation to the other States in the European Union, following the European indicator AROPE.
